Perhaps the PlayStation Network needed to be down in order to add extra dimensions -- whatever the case, Sony just announced that tomorrow will usher in the first quartet of PS3 titles to support stereoscopic 3D. Not too shocking, as it happens to be the same day Japanese gamers get the same deal. Entrees include WipEout HD, Super Stardust HD, Pain, and a demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Looking to the future, PlayStation Move title The Fight: Lights Out will support 3D at launch. Of course you'll need a 3DTV to join the fun, but hey, looks like Sony's got you covered there, too.

Welcome to the Develop Conference & Expo in the UK! They've just announced their nominations for the Develop Industry Excellence Awards, and while there were nominations for all sorts of games and platforms, Sony stood tall and took pride in getting enough nominations with PS3 software that we at PS3 Fanboy have to feel a sense of pride for the company whose product is our namesake. We'll let you know where Sony and its studios got the nod below. For Creativity, Evolution Studios' MotorStorm got a nomination. For Visual Arts, both Evolution Studios' MotorStorm and SCEE Studio Liverpool's F1 Championship Edition got nominations. Sony itself got nominated for being a "Publishing Hero" which we will assume means they have some kind of special power of publishing. Heroes are cool. F1 Championship Edition got mentioned for being among the best in the use of online capabilities. Super Rub-a-Dub got a mention for innovation, as well. So, good job, Sony! Seems you've got a knack for making fun, innovative, and creative racing games. And floating duck games that get universally panned by critics, but secretly enjoyed by some. With these credentials tucked under their belt, will Sony have an equally praised performance at E3 next month? We'll have to wait and see, but don't be surprised if some new games show up as winners in categories much like these.

  • MotorStorm given a delayed start in Japan

While this may initially seem like heartbreaking news, fear not, noble motor stormers. Japan did get a delay for MotorStorm, but it's only a week. Instead of a 12/7 release, Japanese gamers will get the game on 12/14. No biggie. The reasoning for this delay isn't exactly clear, Sony citing "production-related concerns". But IGN may be on to something when they said Sony wants December to be a big time for releases. MotorStorm now pops up on shelves next to Armored Core 4 -- two great games at once, oh my! While Japan still gets MotorStorm first, they'll miss out on online play for a little while. Until everyone else gets it. That's all, really. I played MotorStorm in a Target last week and, while just a demo, it was sweet. Easy to get the hang of. I had to stop racing at one point just to check out the scenery of the canyon. I'm excited. Are you?
