Visual novel Banshee's Last Cry was released as a choose-your-own-adventure novel on the Super Famicom back in 1994, but this week's iOS port is the first chance to experience the game in English. You can try out Banshee's Last Cry for free, but you'll need to pay $3.99 if you want to flip through every digital page. The who-done-it murder mystery takes place in a ski hotel lodge. No, you cannot just leave and let the authorities handle it - the app store description notes that guests are "snowed in" to the resort, so you can either channel Scooby Doo or let a killer go unchecked. Have we mentioned that local legends involve a banshee that can rip through flesh just by screaming? Sounds like a good time! Banshee's Last Cry has multiple endings and unlockable side stories, so diligence is likely rewarded. While the novel is currently only available on iOS, Assistant Localization Editor "@Aksys_June" tweeted that an Android version should appear soon.

In addition to the LucasArts adventure game renaissance and Telltale Games' continued efforts in the genre, Relentless Software is bringing a new episodic adventure series to the PlayStation 3's digital distribution service this December titled Blue Toad Murder Files. Aside from the handful of screenshots we got with the game's December 17 release date announcement last month, we had yet to see it in video form until the Euro PS Blog put up a video earlier today. The game's developer promises two more trailers before it releases in a few weeks, but we suggest you head after the break and check out this one right now. Beyond getting a look at the game's art style in action, it features a British narrator repeatedly saying "Muuurder." How could you go wrong? %Gallery-74684% Congratulations to Andrew on being the first to comment. You've been emailed a free Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta code. Murder! Frogs! Relentless Software, most famous for its work on the Buzz! games, is branching off into quite a different project. Appearing exclusively on the PlayStation Network, the Blue Toad Murder Files is an episodic murder mystery adventure. Details are slim, but the game's official site promises that "mysteries" will be "revealed" in September. This is Relentless' first self-published game, and the team is clearly excited to work on a non-trivia project. Executive Director, David Amor, told us, "We're really excited to be self publishing this. The murder mystery genre has been a staple in TV, books and movies for years and we think we've come up with a great videogame interpretation." If it's like Professor Layton meets ... uh, murder, we're game.

  • Defender of Law raises slight objections

It's a testament to just how good the Ace Attorney series is when we're considering playing something that looks -- well, meh, to put it bluntly -- in the hopes that we'll be able to experience something even somewhat similar. Yet, without the charm of characters like Phoenix Wright, not to mention a much cheesier-looking objection screen, is there really a point? In case you're wondering what we're rambling on about, Portuguese developer GAMEINVEST is releasing an attorney adventure game this summer titled Defenders of Law, Inc: Crime in Willburg. Like the Ace Attorney games, you'll be finding clues and gathering evidence to help you solve a murder mystery, just to prove your client innocent. What intrigues us is that there will be 25 different scenarios, and you can choose from five different attorneys to play as, too. If this game does turn out to be good, at least it will be a lot of good. On the other hand, if it turns out to be bad ... well, we're sure you get the gist. %Gallery-28336%
