If manic shooting's your thing (and why wouldn't it be?), then you may want to keep your sights pointed at Astro Tripper, the latest from Mutant Storm dev PopPom Games. The game is set to blast a hole right through Europe's PSN on December 11, with a US release promised to follow. No price has been announced for the game, which is based on PomPom's 2001 release, Space Tripper (itself an homage to Defender). What we do know is that the side-scrolling shmup will feature Trophies, unlockables and will likely melt your feeble eyes with its 1080p graphics.

Microsoft isn't going to be very giving this Halloween, offering us just one title as we stand on its front porch bellowing "trick or treat" in our matching Geometry Wars costumes. This Wednesday, our Xbox Live Arcade treat will be Mutant Storm Empire. Not a bad title, to be sure, but if space shooters aren't your thing, you'd be better advised to spend your day walking door to door asking for candy from strangers. A press release for this week's XBLA offering also includes a list of titles that will be available "in the coming weeks." The seven listed games include N+, Screwjumper!, Shrek-N-Roll, Spongebob Squarepants, Switchball, Undertow and Word Puzzle. Mutant Storm Empire will be available 5 a.m. ET for 800 MS points (US $10).

Taking advantage of the obvious Halloween marketing opportunity, the Xbox Live folks just announced (although, we remember hearing something last week) that Mutant Storm Empire will be this week's only Xbox Live Arcade release. Because, you know, nothing says Halloween better than zombies, UFOs, robots and generally icky creatures.Onto the details. Pom Pom Games' Mutant Storm Empire will be downloadable off the Marketplace Wednesday, October 31st for 800 Microsoft points and include such features as seamless loading, offline co-op, online multiplayer and around 16 levels of shooting mayhem. Yes sir, eight out of ten gaming enthusiasts agree that Mutant Storm Empire will knock you flat ... but in an enjoyable Donnie Darko kind of way.

So, the guys over at EuroGamer are reporting that PomPom Games' Mutant Storm Empire will be making its way to the Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday (Halloween!) And do you know what we say to that? Zippity-yippity-wanka-humpita-zang! For those who aren't familiar with such an expression, simply put, it means we're overly excited.Mutant Storm Empire is the third in the Xbox Live release trilogy, following in the footsteps of Mutant Storm and Mutant Storm Reloaded, but promising to be even better. The latest installment is set to release for 800 Microsoft points, include online co-op, prettified graphics and mutant bugs that go "pop" and "squish". Yes sir, if the video above gives us anything to look forward to then we'll make it a point to download this little gem come next Wednesday. Zippity-yippity-wanka-humpita-zang! [Via Joystiq]

  • ESRB rates Fatal Fury, Tempest, more for XBLA

We love the ESRB. With the group constantly rating titles that have yet to be announced, it's like getting birthday presents year round. XBLArcade breaks the news that the ESRB has rated 4 new games for Xbox Live Arcade, though not all of them are "new." The three we already know about are Tempest, Mutant Storm Empire, and Fatal Fury Special. We had nearly given up hope on Fatal Fury though. We hadn't heard a peep about it since last August after all. Finally, coming out of left field is SEGA's Streets of Rage 2, a classic beat-em-up from the Genesis era.We have to admit we've been impressed by Xbox Live Arcade lately. Here's hoping Microsoft can continue the stream of new titles unabated.

Gamertag Radio (with Godfree and friends) is starting to piss us off. First they get to go to Digital Life in NYC. Then they have the nerve to post a bunch of videos the first day. Now they go and do it again! To top it all off, Godfree got the sweet RoboBlitz shirt pictured above. It's like they just love to make us feel unwanted. But, that's just the way it goes. After the break you can check out videos of RoboBlitz (listen to its hip-hop theme song here), Mutant Storm Empire, Heavy Weapon (!), Street Trace NYC (?), and a quick tour of Microsoft's parental education bus.

Live Arcade isn't exactly short on multi-directional shooters, but that didn't stop Xboxyde from posting new screens from PomPom's upcoming Mutant Storm Empire. Empire is the sequel to Mutant Storm Reloaded, one of Live Arcade's first available titles. Reloaded must have done fairly well, as the sequel is a 360 exclusive. Now if we could only start seeing some of the Arcade games promised at E3...
