We're sure by now you know the basics, like faster load times and that slimmer shell, but hackers will be hackers, and a certain 0okm has unearthed a few more tidbits of info from the new PSP's user manual that's conveniently hosted by the FCC. The new PSP features is based on a TA-085 PCB, which doesn't mean a lot to us, but gets those homebrew folks looking in the right direction. RAM has been doubled from 32MB to 64MB. You can charge the PSP over USB. There's a 1200mAh battery, rated at 3-6 hours, compared to the original PSP's 1800mAh battery with the same rating. You can't use an original PSP remote with the new PSP. The component AV cable is sold separately. Don't look so shocked (link) There's a WLAN switch on top. [Thanks, Vic F]

  • PSP2 definitely coming?

Kotaku seems to think so. In a news post today they stated that various third party highly placed sources definitively confirm that the PSP2 is on the way (though it won't look like this). Apparently, third party publishers want to have games ready for the PSP2's launch, but Sony hasn't yet given them the kind of info they need to start creating games. This isn't a strange practice as with any system, the first party companies get the dev kits and system specs first, but hopefully they don't wait too long to send out that info. The rumor is that clear info on the PSP2 will hit at this year's E3 with a possibility of the system launching as early as the end of this year. The system is said to have a beautiful screen (no change there), faster load times, better buttons, 8 gig internal flash, UMD support, and the possibility of a touch-screen and built-in camera. Kotaku didn't list their source specifically (why would they, no one wants to lose a job), but they were right about Sony's Home, so there's always a possibility this rumor will hold true as well. I personally think it's too early for a PSP2, but if it supports my old games I'd definitely upgrade.

There has been quite a bit of PSP redesign rumors flying around the last few weeks, but according to a Sony spokesperson, it's all for naught because there is no PSP redesign in the works."We currently have no plans to release another version of the PSP," the spokesperson said.Hoping to make us all feel better, the spokesperson did say to expect a big showing at the Tokyo Games Show. "The camera and GPS peripherals will be the main attraction, and a total of 16 titles will be showcased to demonstrate the strong line-up of software that will be released towards the year."Honestly, I really don't think the PSP needs a redesign all that much. I don't think the problem is with the hardware. If Sony put more effort into delivering useful firmware upgrades, original and captivating games and cheaper software, I think that would go further in generating more sales than a redesigned PSP.(Via GamesIndustry.biz)

Yesterday, Joystiq reported news about a story in the newest PlayStation Magazine issue about a redesigned PSP in the works. The article said the new PSP would have 8GB of flash memory, be smaller and thinner and would have a built-in camera, but those super sleuths at Gamespot looked deeper into the article and say it isn't true. Gamespot's Rumor Control argues nowhere in the article does it say the new PSP will have the internal memory, but only that Sony purchased the flash memory units. Also, they say a large portion of the article is speculative and includes such terms as "likely" and "if we retooled the PSP."Gamespot's final verdict? Bogus.Whatever the case may be, I think Sony needs to do something to counter Nintendo's DS Lite. Sony is getting slaughtered in Japan, but I'm still not sure if throwing some internal memory, a camera and making the system smaller is really what will make the system any more successful. I would go for the dual analog nubs, though.(Via Gamespot)

At Sony's online Signature store, there are two new limted edition PSPs available - the Tsukimi and the Kachofugetsu. You can get both of these super stylish PSPs for the low price of ¥31,500, which is about $272.These two models are a part of Sony's Playstation Signature lineup , which are usually ridiculously high priced feature more upscale systems and accessories. At the store, you can also buy headphones, PSP cases, T-shirts, watches and tons of other things.I must say, these actually look pretty cool, and while I wouldn't pay that kind of money for one, I wouldn't kick it out of bed, either. Everyone's been anticipating a new PSP, so here you go![Thanks, Steve; Via DCEmu]
