Norcent cranks out 10-megapixel DCS-1050 camera
Norcent's done 10-megapixels on the cheap before, but apparently, one just isn't enough. Announced today, the DCS-1050 (part of the firm's new 50 Series) will be showcased at CES and will boast a 10-megapixel sensor, a 3-inch "scratch-resistant" LCD monitor, face-detection / anti-shake capabilities, a 3x optical zoom (along with 4x of the practically worthless digital kind), red-eye reduction and 22 scene modes. Additionally, the unit even includes voice recording functionality, 16MB of internal memory, an SD / MMC expansion slot, USB / AV ports, and an MPEG-4 video capture mode that supports resolutions up to 640 x 480. Unfortunately, Norcent is trying to keep a straight face while slapping a $179.99 price tag on this thing, which just seems a touch absurd for the features, no?
Norcent delivers 19-inch LT-1931 / 22-inch LT-2231 LCD TVs
Norcent's 42-inch LT-4231P a bit too large for your armoire? If so, the firm is hoping to satisfy your LCD TV needs anyway with the 19-inch LT-1931 and 22-inch LT-2231. The former features a 1,440 x 900 resolution along with an 800:1 contrast ratio while the latter serves up a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. Both sets enjoy a 2D digital comb filter, 300 cd/m2 brightness, a trilingual on-screen menu, HDMI / component / S-Video / composite inputs and a built-in TV tuner that plays nice with NTSC, ATSC and Clear-QAM signals. Unlike the aforementioned 42-incher, this pair is available as we speak for $299.99 and $379.99, respectively.
Norcent intros 42-inch LT-4231P 1080p LCD TV
As it seems to do every single year, Norcent is gearing up for CES with a swank new HDTV. For 2008, we're looking at the 42-inch LT-4231P, which offers up a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, a slew of ports including HDMI, component, S-Video, composite and VGA and a pair of 15-watt speakers to boot. Furthermore, you'll notice a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, 500 nits of brightness, 178-degree viewing angles, a trilingual on-screen menu, wall-mounting capability, 3D digital comb filter and a built-in tuner that handles NTSC, ATSC and Clear-QAM. Sadly, you'll have to wait until March to pick this one up, but at least it'll only run you $1,299.99 when that day comes.
Norcent intros Xias / 25 / 50 Series digicams with face detection
Just as Norcent slammed CES with a bevy of new displays, the electronics firm is bringing a bit more fresh gear out for the oh-so-crowded PMA. First up is the ultrathin Xias lineup, which looks to satisfy the style conscious shooter who doesn't have much room in those pants pockets for any extra gadgets. The DSC-760 / DCS-860 / DCS-1060 sport seven-, eight-, and ten-megapixel sensors respectively, feature a 3x optical zoom (plus 4x of the useless digital variety), a scratch-resistant 2.5-inch LTPS color monitor, rechargeable Li-ion battery, and SD / MMC card slots. The 25 Series touts the usual brushed metal enclosure, a vanilla 2.5-inch LCD, 16MB (DCC-725) or 32MB (DCC-1025) of built-in storage, and share the other specs with its Xias brethren. Picking up the rear is the 50 Series cams, which up the ante a bit with their three-inch LCDs, face detection / anti-shake technologies, and compatibility with SDHC cards. The myriad of shooters will be available from April to Q3 of this year depending on model, and while you can snag the lowest-end of these siblings for around $129, the high-end units will be upwards of $200.[Via Imaging-Resource]
Norcent announces DCC-1025 / DCS-760 digicams, slew of storage accessories
Hot on the heels of Norcent unveiling its forthcoming lineup of HDTVs, the company has announced that we'll be seeing its photogenic side as well, as the DCS-760 ($199) and DCC-1025 digicams make their debut at CES along with a slew of storage-related accessories. The 10.1-megapixel DCC-1025 ($179; DC-1020 pictured) reportedly sports a "champagne colored, brushed metal finish," 2.5-inch "scratch-resistant" LCD monitor, 3x optical zoom (and 4x of the practically worthless digital variety), 14 pre-selected scene modes, red-eye reduction, 640 x 480 MPEG4 movie mode, NTSC / PAL compatibility, 32MB of internal memory, SD / MMC slot, and AV out to boot. The more compact DCS-760 features a seven-megapixel sensor, "high-end design," 15 scene modes, VGA movie mode, 2.5-inch LTPS monitor, and the same 3x optical zoom and SD / MMC slot as the larger sibling. Making sure your digicam is fully prepared for a long day of shooting, the firm is also unveiling its SD Duo, Micro SD Trio, and Micro SD Reader / Adapter; the SD Duo combines SD and USB support, while the Micro SD Trio adds microSD, and neither unit needs a card reader to interface with any USB-equipped PC. As if that weren't enough, it's also showing off a 1GB ($19.99) / 2GB ($29.99) USB Pen Drive that rocks a LED indicator light and a "twist to open" cap to curb that "missing lid" syndrome so often associated with flash drives. Norcent readies new plasmas / LCD HDTV for CES
While it seems we really only hear from Norcent when CES is approaching, the California-based outfit is kicking it up a notch this year as well, as it plans to showcase a duo of new plasmas and a flagship LCD HDTV as well. Both PDPs will feature integrated ATSC / NTSC tuners, HDMI, component / S-Video / composite, VGA, 160-degree viewing angle, SRS-enhanced stereo speakers, and a "3D digital comb filter" for color processing. Additionally, the 50-inch PT-5045HD plasma will sport a 1,366 x 768 resolution, 1,000 cd/m2, and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, while the 42-inch PT-4246HD gets stuck with a 1,024 x 768 resolution and 8,000:1 contrast ratio, but picks up a Clear-QAM tuner and a 1,200 cd/m2 brightness rating. Over on the LCD side, the 37-inch VION LT-3790 one ups the LT-3725 we saw just recently by touting a larger panel, 1,366 x 768 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 500 cd/m2 brightness, 176-degree viewing angle, built-in ATSC / NTSC (Clear-QAM) tuners, HDMI, component / S-Video / composite inputs, VGA, and the same SRS-enabled speakers as on the plasmas. Norcent's LT-3725 anchors its new LCD line
Norcent, our favorite TV maker in San Dimas, California (home of "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure," dude!), has just released a new line of five TFT LCDs, known in company parlance as the "25 series." These flat panels range from the 20-inch LT-2025 to the flagship 37-inch LT-3725, with all but the LT-2025 sporting a 16:9 aspect ratio, 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i compatibility, and 1266 x 768 resolution. Starting with the 27-inch model, the LT-2725, Norcent decided to toss in some HDMI action, along with ATSC, Clear-QAM and NTSC tuners. Prices on these televisions start at $340 and keep head north to about $1150.
Norcent can't wait for CES
So like, can someone remind us why we're traveling to Las Vegas this week? The way these electronics manufacturers keep pre-announcing their announcements, are we just flying out for the free peanuts? Add Norcent to the growing list; they've got a new line of LCDs and Plasmas to show us and in funky CE fashion, the line is hard to pronounce. The VION collection (say it with me people: Veé-ohn) is for the fashionista that craves HD. The LCD line comes in three flavors; 20-, 27- and 32-inches and ranges in price from $650 to $1,300. The VION plasmas had a growth spurt over their LCD bretheren and top out at 42- and 50-inches. The 10,000:1 contrast ratio is particularly appealing in these PDPs but we'll just have to get a look-see later this week at the Norcent booth.The smaller PDP will set you back $2,400 or so; Norcent hasn't decided on the 50-inch price point, but you can bet we'll ask; for a price or a demo set.
