Bosch unveils a rugged sport e-bike computer
There's seemingly endless choice when it comes to monitoring tech you can wear on your body, now Bosch have come up with an equally useful bit of kit that can be attached to an e-bike. The Kiox on-board computer monitor is designed for sporty e-bikers, providing riders with data on speed, personal performance, cadence and even their heart rate (via a wearable sensor).
Navigon and StreetPilot Onboard update adds public transport, Apple Maps and iPhone 5 support
Navigon's gearing up for tomorrow's big day by updating its, erm, Navigon and StreetPilot Onboard apps. The refreshed software adds support for the iPhone 5's new 4-inch display as well as baking in public transport listings to Cupertino's presently underwhelming mapping offering. It's also gaining the promised "last mile" function to record the location of your car when finishing your journey on foot, sparing you the embarrassment of getting lost in the multi-storey lot when you return. The company's offering a $10 discount on its apps if you pick 'em up before October 3rd, while the in-app purchase of Urban Guidance has been reduced from $5 to $3 for the same period. Update: We've had a note from Garmin to say that while Navigon update is now available, StreetPilot Onboard has been slightly delayed.
Verizon teams with In Motion Technology, transforms whips into rolling 4G LTE hotspots
Looking to get a bit more 4G LTE access in your Maybach than what your Galaxy Nexus affords you? The wait may soon be over as Verizon and In Motion Technology have announced the "first" wireless mobile router tech for use in vehicles. Making use of the latter outfit's onBoard system, Aventadors everywhere can be converted into secure mobile hotspots along with a network management that monitors the status of the whole kit. VPN security is also present, in all its mobile-optimized glory. The In Motion Technology has been widely used in public safety scenarios, including the onBoard Mobile Gateway in ambulances and other municipal vehicles. Confirmed: "Not charging" iPad does recharge
When TUAW reader Gregory P. wrote to us yesterday, claiming his "Not charging" iPad was, in fact, charging, I admit I was pretty skeptical. After all, the new iPads have been widely reported to be incompatible with USB hubs and lower-power USB ports. Gregory claimed to have charged up his new iPad even when the device reported that it wasn't charging. Gregory writes that he plugged in his 63% iPad into his Lenovo T61, where it reported itself to be "Not charging." Several hours later, the iPad reported an 87% battery level. As I've been plugging directly into A/C power or using a dedicated onboard port on one of my desktop because of those reports, I decided to give Gregory's suggestion a real world try. Last night, I plugged in my 83% iPad into one of my USB hubs. The unit reported "Not charging", as expected. Regardless, I left it plugged in and revisited it this morning. Sure enough, my battery was completely 100% charged. As Gregory wrote in his letter, "Maybe when it says it's not charging it is just charging slower due to less voltage or something, but it is actually charging!" It worked for me.
