Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com. Seriously, can 'ER' get any better at this late date? What's that? You'd like to see Nurse Hathaway and Dr. Ross in bed together, with a cameo by the Palm Treo Pro? Done. Sure, Dr. Ross doesn't seem terribly impressed by the nurse's news that the heart and kidney are viable and ready for new homes, but whatever! That phone looks hot! One more shot of the blessed trio after the break.[Thanks, Yehuda]

  • Alltel rolls out Palm Treo Pro

Alltel is set to play catch up with both Bell and Sprint with news today of its Palm's Treo Pro launch. Pricing is listed on the Alltel page at $519 less a $195 online discount and $125 mail-in rebate which settles this handset's price down to $199. Nice to see Alltel at least matching Sprint's offering, as our northern neighbor's price on Bell -- for the same term -- is about $300. If you've been waiting for something new on the Alltel Windows Mobile front, we'd hazard a guess this just may be it.[Via The Official Palm Blog]

  • Palm releases Treo 750 alert sound bug fix

If you're a Treo 750 owner and have almost thrown your precious QWERTY-board out the window a few times due to missing alert sounds, take a deep breath. The fix for the Palm edition of the Treo 750 appears to address the issue of lost sound alerts that notify you of calls and other notifications. Yeah, we consider that a top-priority fix like you. The root cause was identified by Palm to be related to multiple hooks into the audio driver(s) of the device, causing it to stop completely. The update is detailed using the read link below if you need to restore that loss of sanity caused by a silent 750.[Via Pocket PC Thoughts]

  • Foleo to spawn keyboard-less Treos?

Ever since the first Treo smartphone was introduced in 2003 (remember the Handspring 600?), a staple of the Treo name has been the integrated keyboard. Palm co-founder Jeff Hawkins, who later founded Handspring (which was acquired... by Palm) has hinted at a future keyboard-less Treo. When Palm announced the ho-hum Foleo a few weeks back, much of the world was underwhelmed by the idea of carrying around yet another device. The catch here is that Hawkins believes future Treos may not need keyboards since apparently everyone will use a Foleo hooked wirelessly to a Treo for all that broadband goodness. Hawkins has a respectable track record, but this one seems far off the mark. Perhaps Levis can make a Foleo-sized front pocket in those new 505s, eh?

  • Palm Treo 680 on Sprint? Makes sense!

Sprint Nextel recently removed the Treo 700p from its online lineup and replaced it with the marginally improved and antenna-less 755p. Both are geared at business users and prosumers more than regular consumers, although Palm's consumer-level Treo 680 has been available on AT&T's network for a while now. Will a CDMA version of the Treo 680 come to Sprint soon to sit alongside the 755p? To hit a consumer price point, this makes sense for Palm. The 680 and 755p would be in two different price categories due to the feature sets and software being different and the target customer being different as well. If the carrier wants to sell more data plans to its normal consumer base, a 680-like device could be just the ticket -- if it happens.

The rumors of the Palm OS -- err, ACCESS Garnet -- going away in some shape or form hasn't been lost on Palm yet (the software company), as Palm has released -- after the rumor flames were started -- a new GPS Navigator SmartPhone Edition piece of software for almost all recent Palm-powered and Windows Mobile-powered Treo smartphones. And the list includes the Treo 650, 680, 700p, 700w, 700wx and 750 -- all but the older 600 model it seems. Palm's spiffy new GPS Navigator SmartPhone Edition 3 package comes with TomTom's Navigator 6 software that includes support for the newer 750 as well as the 700-series and the 650-series. Also with the package comes a 1GB miniSD card with adapter and a USB SD adapter -- and of course the obligatory Bluetooth GPS receiver. And, previous GPS Navigator fans will be glad to know that a new cradle is included -- it's smaller and specifically designed for the Treo form factor.

  • Treo 750 exclusivity with Vodafone expires; rest of Europe gets the love

OK -- now that Vodafone has let go of its ruthless grip on the Treo 750 exclusivity in Europe, the unit is not available in normal distribution channels throughout the continent as of Monday. The Treo 750 was set for Cingular here in the U.S. just about a month ago -- and it's on sale now with them. If you're no fan of ole' Voda and want to use the Windows Mobile-powered Treo 750 on any old GSM carrier over in Europe -- officially at least -- you're in luck now.
