We're gonna need a bigger boat. Developer Teyon (responsible for games like 101 Minigolf World, Hubert the Teddy Bear Winter Games, and ... Heavy Fire: Special Operations) wants to introduce you to a hundred and one special little friends: 101 Shark Pets. (What is it with Teyon and groups of 101?) "Choose from over 101 baby sharks or simply adopt them all!" the game's website reads. In the most terrifying of virtual game pets, you are given responsibility for feeding, training, and even cleaning as many baby sharks as you can handle. You can enter your sharks in pageants, play minigames with them (like having them chase your boat!), and mix up special recipes of chum, using hundreds of different ingredients, to satisfy each shark's specific cravings. Okay, we made that last one up. 101 Shark Pets will circle the DSi Shop on July 5 (circle that on your calendar). %Gallery-96627%

  • Henry Hatsworth devs crafting Monster Tale on DS

Dreamrift, the new studio formed by Henry Hatsworth designer Peter Ong and programmer Ryan Pijai, is working on a new DS game that, once again, involves two distinct genres of running simultaneously across both screens. Instead of Hatsworth's weird mashup of platformer and falling-block puzzle, however, the new Monster Tale combines platforming and ... a pet simulation. The result is something reminiscent of A Boy and his Blob. In Monster Tale, Ellie fights her way through the Monster World in order to free its denizens from the control of the "Kid Kings." Acquired items can be sent to the bottom screen, home of a monster named Chomp. The items Chomp eats or plays with in the bottom screen boost his abilities, or even transform him into one of around 30 forms when summoned to the top screen to protect Ellie. Will a cup of tea transform him into a dashing British adventurer? Probably not! Majesco plans to release Monster Tale this December. %Gallery-92883%

It's not often that a game goes on sale before it's even released, not that we're complaining. If you enjoy word games, then, you might want to consider picking up Wordmaster at Amazon. Although the MSRP is $19.99, Amazon is currently offering the game for $13.99, which is as budget as it gets for a new release. The title doesn't even come out until July 15th, but you can preorder now if you want to secure the game for cheap. As for what Wordmaster is? Well, think Lingo or Jotto, only on the DS. On a side note, you can also pick up Petz: Hamsterz 2 as Amazon's "Deal of the Day" for $11.99. Last year, Starfish released a game called I Love Dolphin, which we affectionately dubbed Nintendolphins. Now, Starfish is revisiting its dolphin love by coming out with Long Vacation: Iruka to Watashi (i.e. Long Vacation: Dolphin and Me) this August. Although the title isn't an official sequel (perhaps Starfish didn't want to call the game I Still Love Dolphin), the gameplay is essentially the same. You play with the porpoise-like creatures, explore the ocean, and let's not forget about those minigames. Now we only have to wait for Ubisoft to copy the idea and come out with Petz: Dolphinz. Oh, wait ...[Via Siliconera]
