Electronic Arts has acquired SCI. No, not that SCi, but rather PC gaming technology provider Super Computer International, adding the company's technology assets and development team to EA's Online Technology Group. Atlanta-based SCI is most widely recognized for creating AOL and Verizon's online gaming and social networking service PlayLinc, which includes tools such as instant messaging and VoIP, as well as buddy tracking, player invitations, and team management. Financial terms of the acquisition were of course not disclosed, nor were EA's plans for the newly purchased technology. However, the purchase is just the latest in a series of moves by EA to both broaden and strengthen its presence in the online space, and an EA spokesperson commented that SCI is 'uniquely suited' for EA's online technology plans, whatever they may be.
