"Who's that Pokemon?" (And who are those two other Pokemon?) Fansite Pokebeach shared this image of the silhouettes of Pokémon Black and White's three starter Pokémon, as revealed on the Pokémon Sunday TV show. We now have solid information about the upcoming DS sequel: all three of the new creatures have tails, and two of them have ears. That's information, right? We would say that we can safely assume that these three silhouettes represent Grass, Fire and Water-type Pokémon, as those have been the starters for every Pokémon game except Yellow (which started you off with Pikachu). However, we're desperately clinging to the idea that, since the new game has been described as "innovative," that not every aspect will be completely identical to previous games. We'll just hang on to that notion for as long as we can. [Via Siliconera]

Within the span of nine days, we've seen Pokémon Black & White go from being announced to being featured in magazines to, now, appearing in video form on the madness-fueled weekly Japanese show Pokémon Sunday. A Siliconera reader with a penchant for insanityvision (like television, but, ya know, insane) spotted the footage, which has the show's hosts (and Lucario) gasping and commenting on a brief gameplay clip. Since our resident Pokéxpert Griffin McElroy is out this weekend, we're unable to confirm whether the footage matches the levels of excitement displayed by the show's hosts, but we have to imagine that, somewhere, he just got stood up and cheered without knowing why. See it for yourself after the break. [Via Siliconera]

We apologize for any and all spelling or grammatical errors this post may contain. We're not at our usual razor-sharp level of literary acuity this morning, due to the fact that we stayed up all night to analyze the image you see above. According to Siliconera, that silhouetted figure up there is the first new fifth-generation Pokémon, and we need to know what it is. We'll find out during the February 21 episode of Pokémon Sunday -- but we both know that we can't be expected to wait that long. So, let's just start riffing. It looks bipedal, right? That could indicate that it's a fighting-type -- then again, look at its plumage. Kinda looks like the trappings of a fire-type, doesn't it? Then again, it could just as easily be a new evolution of Lucario! Or -- wait, you know what it actually resembles? Our shame.

As promised, today's episode of Pokémon Sunday brought the now not-so-surprising reveal of Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. While the actual revelation wasn't particularly mind-blowing, the episode did feature a few seconds of gameplay (posted after the break) that will likely whet the appetites of many a pocket-sized monster fanatic. The gameplay itself isn't that interesting -- the protagonist merely walks in circles a few times -- though we do get a good sense of the Pearl and Diamond-esque art style the remakes will adopt. Also, if this clip is any indication, it looks like your starter pokémon will follow your character around in a Pokémon Yellow-esque fashion. We feel so sorry for Pokémon detractors. If you guys had hearts, that news would make them feel pretty warm.

  • Speculation: Pokemon Gold and Silver remakes to be announced Sunday

This past Friday, it was announced that Japan's Pokémon Sunday variety show would be making a world exclusive announcement on May 10, leading many to believe the reveal of a new monster-catchin' title was imminent. Speculation on the nature of this new title was set aflame by the image you see above -- a picture of this past episode of Pokémon Sunday, which clearly depicts gold and silver balls hanging precariously from the ceiling. It's fairly tenuous as far as speculation goes, but the timing is right for Pokémon Gold and Silver remakes to hit the street. It's probably too soon for Generation V to be released like a plague unto the world, and Generation IV is pretty much all tapped out. Since Gold and Silver (and Crystal, we guess) are the only ones that haven't had a post-GBC adaptation, it makes sense for them to modernize it. Oh, and to monetize it. Again.
