The PlayStation Store had some noteworthy releases in February: Explodemon, Stacking, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. But none of these new releases managed to chart in PSN's monthly sales numbers. Instead, you'll see some familiar names on the top 5 list, including Angry Birds, which continues its second month of bestselling sales. Angry Birds Plants vs. Zombies Tetris Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Mortal Kombat II In addition to Angry Birds, the appearance of a PopCap game, a Tetris game, and a Pac-Man game tell us that casual games are key to making your way to the top of the PlayStation Network.

No wonder developers are jumping ship to Rovio: it's flooded with money. Angry Birds has managed to perch itself atop not only the iOS and Android marketplaces, but it has claimed the top spot on the PlayStation Store as well. Released as a mini, the port works on both PS3 and PSP, which undoubtedly helped its sales. The rest of the top 10 for January include: Angry Birds Tetris X-Men Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Final Fantasy VII Wheel of Fortune Marvel vs Capcom 2 Mass Effect 2 Castle Crashers Risk Factions Mass Effect 2 is a surprising addition to the top downloads list, considering it is a full $60 game. Perhaps the success of Bioware's RPG will cause more publishers to consider releasing full retail games via the PlayStation Store?

PlayStation fans happily ignored our review of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, making it the best-selling game on the PlayStation Store in October. Apparently that wasn't enough to sate your appetite: the Dreamcast re-release of Sonic Adventure jumped to number 4 on the list. Meanwhile, former Xbox Live exclusives, Deadliest Warrior and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, made strong debuts, with Castle Crashers continuing its strong performance. 1. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode One 2. Deadliest Warrior: The Game 3. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light 4. Sonic Adventure 5. Echoes (minis) 6. Castle Crashers 7. My Aquarium 8. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game 9. Costume Quest 10. Final Fantasy IX (PSone)

Looks like Castle Crashers' volleyball was able to help win over PS3 owners. It tops the PSN sales charts for September as the best-selling paid game. At the top of the overall chart, however, is Zen Pinball, which earns its rank with the help of PlayStation Plus subscribers. 1. ZEN Pinball 2. Castle Crashers 3. Blast Off (Minis) 4. Echoes (MInis) 5. Syphon Filter 3 (PSone) 6. Sonic Adventure 7. My Aquarium 8. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game 9. Red Dead Redemption: Legends and Killers Pack (DLC) 10. DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

The movie may have flopped at the box office, but the game has risen almighty on the PlayStation Network. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game makes its debut as the best-selling game on the PSN in August. Mushroom Wars comes in at number two, undoubtedly helped by PlayStation Plus members. After months of domination by one of the Final Fantasy games, the PlayStation Network has finally managed to snag a new victor on its Top 10 chart. However, it probably isn't what you're expecting. Ludia's digital recreation of Family Feud snags the top spot, away from new games like DeathSpank. We're glad that indie favorite Joe Danger still stands strong on the list, but we're still bewildered by the large number of Mortal Kombat II downloads. Seriously people, stop it. The latest episode of PlayStation Network's Pulse revealed the top ten downloaded PSP games for 2010 so far. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Square Enix's classic PSone RPGs have topped the list in the first quarter of the year. Only one mini makes it into the top 10: Tetris, whose steep $10 price tag apparently hasn't scared everyone away. 1. Final Fantasy VII (PSP/PS3) 2. Final Fantasy VIII (PSP/PS3) 3. Tetris 4. God of War: Chains of Olympus 5. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories 6. LittleBigPlanet 7. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories 8. Madden NFL 10 9. Gran Turismo 10. Resident Evil 2 (PSP/PS3)

The PSN Top 10 sales charts don't look very different from previous months, do they? With the exception of Hustle Kings, the top 10 is populated with familiar faces, including Mortal Kombat II, which debuted on PSN nearly three years ago. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 takes the top spot for the month, likely boosted by the half-off sale it had. With little new scheduled for March on PSN, it seems likely next month's list will look very similar. Marvel Vs. December was a good month for PlayStation Network. According to a statement from SCEA's Patrick Seybold, December 2009 marked PSN's single highest revenue month so far, increasing 155% from a year ago. Most likely enamored with gifted systems and PSN cards, people were spending quite a bit of time on the PlayStation Store on Christmas Day -- it was the busiest day on the virtual marketplace that month. So what were people buying? Lots and lots of PSone classics: 1. FINAL FANTASY VIII (PS3/PSP) 2. PixelJunk Shooter 3. FINAL FANTASY VII (PS3/PSP) 4. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS3/PSP) 5. Resident Evil 2 (PS3/PSP) 6. Frogger Returns 7. Call of Duty Classic 8. Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned 9. MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 10. Battlefield 1943

Three PSP titles appear on the PSN bestsellers list for October. It makes sense, considering the launch of the all-digital PSP Go. Surprisingly, the much-anticipated Gran Turismo PSP didn't top the charts. Instead, PSone classic Final Fantasy VII took the lead once again, undoubtedly boosted by nostalgic RPG players wanting to relive Cloud Strife's cross-dressing adventure on the Go. Here's the full list:1. Final Fantasy VII (PS3/PSP)2. Zombie Apocalypse (PS3)3. TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (PS3)4. .deTuned (PS3)5. UNO (PS3)6. Gran Turismo (PSP)7. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (PS3)8. Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest For Booty (PS3)9. Critter Crunch (PS3)10. God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)Konami's Zombie Apocalypse stood as the top new entry, while interactive art experience .deTuned managed to snag a few purchases from Trophy hunters looking for some of the easiest achievements ever created. Critter Crunch's low sales numbers managed to snag it a 9th position -- which either means sales picked up after the free demo, or October was not a very good month for PSN sales at all.

Once again proving that regular people don't care about what critics have to say, TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled managed to climb to the top of the PSN download chart for September. With Final Fantasy VII and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 also maintaining enviable positions, it's clear that people love paying for nostalgia. 1) TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled 2) NBA 2K10: Draft Combine 3) Final Fantasy VII 4) Marvel Vs Capcom 2 5) Fat Princess 6) Battlefield 1943 7) Zombie Apocalypse 8) Silent Hill 9) Final Fantasy Tactics 10) SimCity 2000 We'd also like to point out that this may be the first month Mortal Kombat II is not in the top 10. Did everyone in the world finally buy it?

  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 takes top spot in PSN August sales

Another month over, another month of PSN sales to look at. Unsurprisingly, the biggest release of the month -- Marvel vs. Capcom 2 -- took the top spot for downloads. The starchy multiplayer matches of Fat Princess took the crown as the biggest PSN exclusive of the month and will likely keep that position once new classes are introduced. Here's the Top 10: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Fat Princess Battlefield 1943 Final Fantasy VII (PS3/PSP) Crystal Defenders Mortal Kombat II Shatter Wolfenstein 3D Worms Metal Gear Solid (PS3/PSP) We're glad to see that Shatter finally made it into the top downloads chart, considering it's both cheap and awesome. Mortal Kombat II keeps its relentless hold on the PSN charts, and Square Enix's first PS3 game, Crystal Defenders, makes a rather strong debut. Perhaps Square should consider bringing its other downloadable games to PSN?
