Codename Cygnus successfully reached its Kickstarter funding goal this week, earning a total of $13,943. The interactive radio drama app for iOS has players acting as secret agents, with their choices impacting a fictional world through both touch and voice commands. Each of Codename Cygnus' episodes are around 20 minutes in length, with the first episode launching this month and subsequent episodes arriving every week. Among the cast involved in a few episodes are Logan Cunningham, known for voicing the narrator Rucks in Bastion, and Red Dead Redemption's Rob Wiethoff, the voice of John Marston.

Codename Cygnus, the interactive radio drama app seeking $11,000 on Kickstarter, now has another noteworthy voice actor joining its cast: Rob Wiethoff. Known for voicing John Marston in Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption, Wiethoff will take on the role of a mysterious man named Lazarus during a planned "sidequest episode." Wiethoff's episode will arrive in September, providing the project is funded. The app has players listening to 15 to 20-minute episodes, occasionally deciding on the direction the story turns through touch-screen and verbal commands, similar to a choose-your-own-adventure novel. Wiethoff joins the narrator of Bastion, Logan Cunningham on the project. The app has raised $9,062 on Kickstarter so far, and has until Sunday to reach its goal.

Logan Cunningham, known as the voice behind Bastion narrator Rucks, is lending his pipes to an interactive radio drama for iOS, Codename Cygnus. Developed by Reactive Studios, the project is seeking $11,000 on Kickstarter by August 11 to fund more episodes in its story arc. Cunningham's role in the story is that of the "first spy nemesis," and will deliver a "villainous speech" in the first episode, slated to launch this month. Each episode is expected to run between 15 and 20 minutes, "although the total playable content will be a lot more," the project page notes. Sarah Elmaleh (Skulls of the Shogun, Gone Home, Resonance) and Chris Ciulla (Fallout: New Vegas) are two of the 25+ voice actors that are also involved in the project. Codename Cygnus offers a simple UI and voice recognition for listeners to audibly direct how each episode plays out. The project is currently sitting at $7,388 in funding with nine days left in the campaign.

In a tweet, Hideo Kojima announced that the Snatcher-universe radio drama, "Suda 51's Sdatcher," will be released as a free download. A CD will be sold later to pay the voice actors, including many Metal Gear series cast members. There's still no official release date for the drama, but it was planned to be concurrent with Hideradio podcast number 300 -- they're on 298 right now. Kojima subsequently tweeted the character art of Jean Jack Gibson above. Kojima also said that he's heard the music Akira Yamaoka is making for the drama, which was to be '70s progressive rock and '80s electro pop. Per Andriasang's translation, Kojima likes it but questioned its reception by the masses. And when you bring in Suda 51 to make a podcast radio drama based on an adventure game from 1988, you don't want anything to get in the way of that built-in mass appeal.

This week, Hideo Kojima teased a surprise announcement coming on the latest edition of his Hideradio podcast. The real surprise is that it's something he already announced in 2007: a radio drama inspired by his 1988 cyberpunk adventure game Snatcher, scripted by Suda 51. It's called "Sdatcher" as a pun on Suda's name. This is the long-awaited Kojima/Suda "Project S." The drama will include music by Akira Yamaoka, and will be released to coincide with the 300th episode of Hideradio -- this one is #296, and they are released biweekly, on Fridays. So ... two months or so? Of course, we'll then have to wait for some kind of translation, official or otherwise. We take back what we said earlier. The real real surprise with this announcement is that Kojima actually announced something that isn't Metal Gear.
