European publisher Ghostlight is porting Compile Heart's Xbox/PS3 strategy game Record of Agarest War (known in Europe as Agarest: Generations of War) to PC, and attempting to get the port on Steam via Greenlight. The port is based on the Xbox 360 version, and will use Aksys Games' North American localization.Agarest combines strategy-RPG gameplay with elements of dating simulation games, with a "Soul Breed" system in which you attempt to build a relationship with one of the heroines of each generation, with your relationship resulting in different playable characters in the next generation. This is a slightly awkward time for Ghostlight to announce this port, as well as plans to port other console games to PC, as the company's most recent release, Devil Survivor Overclocked, suffers from game-breaking bugs – and that just went from 3DS to 3DS.

Aksys' not-actually-very-erotic-but-being-marketed-that-way SRPG Record of Agarest War is finally coming to the North American PlayStation Store this week. Available this Thursday for $44.99, the only way you'll be able to play this game on PS3 is to download the game via PSN. However, don't expect to play the game right away. As promised, it's a hefty download: 10GB. However, while the download is 10GB, you'll need 18GB of free space on your hard drive in order to complete the installation. To see how much free space you have, go to System Settings -> System Information on the XMB. If you plan on having the game download and install overnight, go to Users -> Turn Off System once you queue up the download, so that your PS3 can automatically shut down after installing the game.

Aksys picked the right day to send out trailers for Cho Aniki Zero and Record of Agarest War. In the case of Cho Aniki, we wouldn't normally post a trailer for a game that was released over a week ago, but a general lack of news today gives us a pretty good excuse to post this new video! In case you missed its arrival on PSN in late March, let this video serve as notice that yes, the Men's Beam-firing shmup is downloadable now from the PlayStation Store. There's also a trailer after the break for Record of Agarest War, which we were going to praise for its emphasis on gameplay and J-pop over lasciviousness, but then we watched the rest of the video. Oh, well.

  • Humiliating limited edition of Record of Agarest War coming to 360

Aksys Games has taken to promoting Record of Agarest War in a ... unique way, downplaying the actual strategy RPG gameplay in favor of lasciviousness. That extends (huh-huh, we said "extends") to the limited edition release of the Xbox 360 version, revealed today as the "Really Naughty Limited Edition." The PS3 version will be somewhat less naughty due to its digital-only release. For the truly despicable amongst us, Aksys has seen fit to package the game with a "Sensual Vira-Lor mouse pad" --featuring ergonomic breasts -- and a "Yearning Ellis pillowcase," packaged in a collector's box adorned with bathing anime girls. There's also a soundtrack CD, but that seems relatively innocuous. The Really Naughty edition, at least, carries a reasonably modest (for a limited edition) price of $59.99, so at least you won't be spending more than usual for the bonus of deep, lifelong shame. It'll be available April 27. Aksys has offered no date for a non-special edition.

  • Record of Agarest War is largest PSN game ever

If you managed to get into the MAG beta and thought that was a lot of downloading, Aksys' Record of Agarest War is going to blow your mind. The PSN title will weigh in "somewhere around 8 - 10 gigs," an Aksys employee posted on the game's forums. Obviously, eight to ten gigabytes isn't going to be much space for your PS3's big and burly hard drive and it's definitely understandable considering the game was originally a disc-based release in Europe; however, the time it'll take to download all of those gigglebytes is another story. We suggest starting the download before you go to bed or -- considering the "100 hour" adventure isn't actually out yet -- taking the Delorean up to 88MPH. [Via Siliconera] %Gallery-71232%

Niche RPG Record of Agarest War is coming to the States (in English!) courtesy of Aksys Games this fall. Considering the limited appeal of oldschool 2D sprite-based RPGs, the publisher has opted to distribute the game exclusively through the PlayStation Network. While it may be a "mere" downloadable title, Aksys is promoting the game's supposed "100 hours" of gameplay, making it easily one of the lengthiest PSN titles ever.Record of Agarest War is known for its use of anime fanservice and this initial clip shows us why. Apparently, girls have trouble covering the entirety of their chests in the world of Agarest. While that may prove to be problematic in battle, the video (after the break) shows that real warriors have no need for appropriate attire.%Gallery-71232%

Niche PS3 JRPG Record of Agarest War is finally coming to America, courtesy of BlazBlue publisher Aksys Games. The Compile Heart-developed SRPG is infamous among certain otaku circles thanks to its suggestive sausage-eating imagery and abundance of low-angle panty shots. The game also features a unique "Soul Breed" system that allows the player to pursue a relationship with the game's many female characters. We'll leave the rest to your imagination.Official details of the game's American release are forthcoming, but we do know the game will be distributed digitally through the PlayStation Network. While logistics are being figured out, it appears this will be one of the largest (if not the largest) downloadable games on PS3.

  • PS3 Fanboy impressions: Agarest Senki demo

It's difficult to play games in a language you don't know. However, based on the nearly infinite well of RPG experience under our belts, we can make a few pretty obscure parallels to the recent demo of Agarest Senki that popped up on the Japanese PS Store this past week. If you're unaware of the title, it's a strategy RPG that harkens to the like of all those Nippon Ichi titles, except this one spans generations of characters that are born, fall in love, and breed according to your actions. It sounds fun on paper, but what happens in the demo is more confusing than biting into a donut to find it's filled with salad.

  • Record of Agarest War gets some hardcore strategy on

If you've been eagerly anticipating the collaboration of three fairly large role-playing developers/publishers from Japan, you will have probably heard of Record of Agarest War. As a mixed effort between developers RED and Idea Factory, published by Compile Heart, you know you're getting two things: anime girls and role-playing. Everything else is just bonus, like a strategy RPG. If you want to see more on the game, look at the official site. The screenshots released for this game are, well, only impressive to those actually looking for an SRPG. Two of the screens are admittedly throwaways, but one gives you the opportunity to see what to expect. The layout of the game seems to be a strange cross between Disgaea and Suikoden Tactics. Since both of those games were fantastic, we're not going to pass judgment on this game yet. We do wonder how much titles like these benefit from the move onto Blu-ray and HD gaming, though.
