The Virtual Console and DSiWare are stuffed full of games this week in Japan! The Virtual Console has the first Metal Max Famicom game (a series that eventually led to Metal Saga on PS2, with a DS sequel upcoming), as well as two Neo Geo fighting games. The bizarre Waku Waku 7 from Sunsoft stars robot tanks, Totoro-esque creatures, and even a sentient punching bag! There's even an ancient Dig Dug-style arcade game. WiiWare's World Game Parade finishes with Katamuki Spirits, a localized version of Equilibrio. DSiWare features a game in which you compose songs to be played by a band of cartoon monkeys, with synthesized instruments and vocals! Also available: a drawing program about doodling on your photos, a platformer with 10-second levels, and, of course, Hudson's Shooting Watch app, which tests the number of button presses you can perform in a second. Metal Max (Famicom, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Samurai Shodown III (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points) Waku Waku 7 (Neo Geo, 1--2 players, 900 Wii Points) Mr. Do! (Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Katamuki Spirits (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points) Ahh, Nostalgic Shooting Watch (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Artist Ni Narou: Kikaru ni Sketch (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) 10-second Run (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Atelier Deco La Doll - Gothic (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Teach Me Darling (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points) Make Songs Monkey Band (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points) Renjuku Kanji: Junior High (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

  • 'Jam with the Band' headed to Europe after 5-year wait; other Nintendo releases dated

[Daigasso! Band Brothers & Daigasso! Band Brothers DX] Nintendo of Europe released its summer lineup today, featuring dates we mostly know -- Super Mario Galaxy 2 on June 11 -- or aren't terribly concerned with -- Repetto Presents Ballerina in May. Metroid: Other M is still undated, having been slated for Q3, and therefore out of the bounds of the new listing. However, there are a few welcome surprises, most notably: Jam with the Band. Originally released way back in 2004 as Daigasso! Band Bros., this rhythm game disappeared from Nintendo's launch lineup elsewhere, never making it to the West until now. We don't know why Nintendo decided to revive it now -- or if it's the first game or the sequel (both covers pictured above) -- but it's scheduled for release in Europe on May 21! Samurai Warriors 3 for Wii has been dated for May 28, as well. Nintendo has also dated Capcom's Mega Man Zero Collection for June. The release date for this DS compilation of GBA Mega Man games had been up in the air following the announcement of its delay in Japan. Also, a previously unannounced DS title from Hudson, Shooting Watch, is set for release in May. We assume this is based on Hudson's Shooting Watch toy, which measures the number of button presses you can achieve in 10 seconds.

Assuming you use a DS homebrew device (much like the ELSPA was erroneously reported to have assumed), you probably have a few non-game applications on there. Everyone has DS Organize, of course, and probably Moonshell as well. But there's a ton of stuff out there to extend the functionality of your DS, even beyond those two catchalls! What applications do you have sitting on your card? Do you read comics? Watch movies? Play music? Or maybe just sketch and doodle? Uh, Shooting Watch DS is sort of application-like, if you, uh, need to measure how quickly you can push a button.
