Er, we mean Sims Wii. We can't help but compare it to Animal Crossing, though, both in look and gameplay, since there's a very definite fusion effect going on here. EA's taking a cue from a winner, though, and obviously looking to appeal to Japanese audiences. Many thought that Sims Wii might incorporate Miis, but that isn't the case. The character design is similarly simplified, with a focus on the facial features of the childlike characters. And rather than resorting to thought bubbles or the pee-pee dance, these new sims will use those detailed faces to demonstrate their changing moods. Animal Crossing's influence permeates the way this Sims is to be played, as well -- you'll build everything, from residences to business, and don't forget the landscaping. That's totally okay with us, as the building was always the best part of the Sims series. If you didn't catch the trailer awhile back, it's included after the jump. This ain't the Sims you've played before ....

  • Electronics Arts announces many upcoming/future titles

Electronic Arts has gone on record... about its upcoming titles. Most importantly are two of their more high-profile games -- Crysis and Army of Two. Let us recall briefly that the former is a pretty crazy looking shooter for the PC (although they've gained quite an ego... and change their minds a lot) and the latter is the hotly anticipated co-op game for the PS3 and 360. These games are now slated for a fiscal year 2008 release (after this coming March of '07). So... if you're really pumped for these games, we apologize, but your waiting will have to continue a bit longer. EA's CFO, Warren Jensen, confirmed also many beloved franchises do indeed have sequels in the works. First up, Sims 3. Probably for fiscal of 2009, says the big man. Also, there's a Wii-specific (Wiicific?) Sims title also in the works. In the same vein, and not overdoing real-life simulation at all, is a Sims 2 Holiday Edition due out fairly soon for the PS3 -- hopefully this holiday season. Aside from Sims? Well, there's a SimCity coming up! Oh, and also another Lord of the Rings game and the next-gen realization of the over-hyped-but-still-decent Black. Well fellows, any of these really get you curious or anxious?

Pick from a cat, dog, bird or guinea pig to add as a new addition to your Sims life. We never were big fans of virtual pets because we would rather have our own to cuddle in real life, but, this game sounds like you will have to do a lot of the things you would in real life to keep your animal happy, clean and bringing in the bacon by having a job. Yes, the PC version of The Sims 2: Pets allows your animal to make money by being a movie star, rescue animal or as a member of an elite security pets corp. Too bad that won't be on the DS version. The DS version will let you create and manage a pet care center. Treating the animals in your care lovingly helps you unlock items and such. You can also help others pick out pets and clothes/accessories for their new friends. The Sims 2: Pets will be available October 17 for the DS. We would get into the whole trying to take a piece of the virtual pets franchise pie thing but that's just another messy can of worms. On a side note -- Is it us or does the cat in the above picture look really... freaked out? Either that or really pissed off. Either way, that cat looks weird. [Via Go Nintendo]

My wife is obsessed with the Sims. She likes to take all of our friends and create little virtual families based upon them, marrying some friends to other friends, making a few of them the children of others, and every once in a while throwing a T.V. family into the mix. Nothing makes her more blissfully zen than sitting in front of the Sims for an hour or so, buying things and redesigning houses, and trying to get our virtual friends to make babies. I personally don't get it, but I know she will be overjoyed to hear that Aspyr today announced that the Sims 2 for Mac is now Gold Master and will soon begin shipping. It's listed at $49.99.
