We hear whispers of a Skies of Arcadia 2 game for the Wii every now and again, but there's usually nothing substantiative to say aside from "Quartermann says so," or even, uh, Surfer Girl. While we're pretty much in the same position because there's still no tangible proof, a German website called Sega On is now claiming to have insider information regarding the air-pirate RPG.According to Sega On, the sequel will be revealed around the time of the Tokyo Game Show (so at least we'll know soon enough whether or not they're just playing with our emotions), and might even be releasing for the PS3 as well. We've been hearing rumors about a Skies 2 for so long that we can't help but be skeptical. Still, that doesn't stop us from really, really wanting it to be true. The Dreamcast original and its ports were all well-received (this blogger can personally vouch for the GameCube version), so it's definitely a series that we'd like to see revisited.[Via QJ.net]

In case you aren't as skilled in mashing words together, jawesome is a way to say "jaw-droppingly awesome" without any extra effort than just saying awesome. Anyhow, our friends over at Siliconera have noted that the recently released Sega title, Valkyria Chronicles, has cameos from the stars of Skies of Arcadia, another overlooked gem from Sega's vault. You can get Vyse the Bold and Aika, his female pirate companion, to join your cause. That's pretty awesome and who knows -- this may mean the Skies of Arcadia franchise has more life left to live. It shows Sega hasn't lost interest in recreating the characters, right?

Dream Games is a new weekly column where we explore a game we'd love to see on the PSP. Feel free to check in, and comment, every week.Today's edition of Dream Games is more about an idea than a specific game in general. What I want to see is a new, original RPG for the PSP that isn't afraid to stray away from the norm: a game that's refreshingly innovative in a genre inundated with clones. While Monster Kingdom is a fun RPG, there's still more that can be done. Which brings us to ...Skies of ArcadiaWe need the equivalent of Skies of Arcadia from the Dreamcast era. This wasn't a port, a remake, or a sequel: it was a completely new world in a new franchise that explored a pretty fascinating theme: sky pirates. It featured top-notch audio, and a visually appealing world that strayed far from the futuristic environments standardized by Final Fantasy VII in the 32-bit era.Why PSP?Our system needs a genre-defining RPG. The original Skies of Arcadia made use of Dreamcast's quirkier accessories, like the VMU. An original PSP RPG would have to take advantage of the system's unique capabilities. Maybe it could use the GPS in a creative Kojima-inspired way? Or, let you import pictures from your Memory Stick (or PSP camera) to use for your in-game avatar? Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure would be a must as well.Is it possible?Clearly, companies are interested in making RPGs for our system: but will we ever get a game as beloved as Skies of Arcadia? Hopefully. Or, maybe Sega could give PSP owners a sequel? Pretty please!

With Nintendo dropping four new Virtual Console titles every Monday, Sega Nerds has posted a list of ten sequels they'd like to see on a console near you. Heck, we just got Ecco the Dolphin this past Monday, so is this list timely or what? For us, the ones we'd really like to see are either an update of Skies of Arcadia, or some new hotness from Streets of Rage. We'd forgotten that game even existed until the picture slapped us across the face. Punching and kicking at its best. What Sega classics (and we're using that term lightly) would you like to see? While you're busy wishing, Joystiq wants a solid gold PlayStation 3. Just a little holiday FYI.
