  • Spiderwick Chronicles for $7 on Amazon

The Spiderwick Chronicles may not be the best game ever, but $7 is a decent price for this fantasy game. Sure it has its faults, but such things are usually reconciled by cheapness. Since Spiderwick is an Amazon "Deal of the Day" (along with the PS2, 360, and Wii versions, which cost a little more), it's a "take it or leave it" type thing. We imagine that most of you will choose to leave it, but those who take it will probably be able to find $7 worth of entertainment in this license-based adventure RPG.

Will the line-up of DS demos available on the Wii's Nintendo Channel change every week? We're not sure, but it's starting to look like it; at least, some of the demos available have been rotated out in favor of fresh meat. If you were looking for something that was previously available, it might just be gone. Lesson? Download quickly rather than putting it off, because the demo you want may just disappear!Peek past the break for the current list of available demos -- you may be surprised at what you'll find!

Yet another contest has wrapped, and one lucky DS Fanboy reader is going to walk away with the one thing that's really important: free DS games. This time it's Hostile, whose comment reflected a very apt screenname (though we're assuming it's sarcasm, which is big around these parts): I would side more with Napoleon Dynamite but only because you're pushing us to answer. Stop shoving! Congratulations to Hostile for picking up copies of The Spiderwick Chronicles and Napoleon Dynamite! To everyone else: sorry you didn't win this time, but don't worry -- we'll do another contest soon!

  • DS Fanboy Review: The Spiderwick Chronicles

Remember when you used to believe in the possibility of faeries, goblins, and other sorts of mythical creatures? If you do, games like The Spiderwick Chronicles probably appeal to you in some way, whether you like to admit it or not. Still, none of that means anything if these games based on fantasia aren't any good. Fortunately, that's why we're here – to review them. The Spiderwick Chronicles game is based on a movie, which is based on a book. While normally that spells a recipe for disaster, it becomes evident while playing this title that it's not just a quick cash-in attempt. Stormfront Studios clearly put a lot of time into the game's development, and tried to utilize the features of the DS to the fullest. That's not to say that Stormfront always succeeded, however.%Gallery-15994%

Are any of these games on your radar? Have you picked any of them?As for us, we have a review to get done on The Spiderwick Chronicles. So, we'll be trying to get through that as much as we can. Golly gee willickers there's a lot of games out this week. First of all, we should mention that Turok is officially out this week (though it was released early in some areas; we saw it at Blockbuster yesterday). The star of the show this week is probably Devil May Cry 4 though, what with its demon slaying antics and longstanding pedigree. But wait, what's this? There's more? Yes, it seems the post-holiday dearth has finally ended (for the moment anyway), as this week sees three more titles as well. All told we have: Devil May Cry 4 Turok Culdcept Saga The Spiderwick Chronicles Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore See, there's something for everybody (even gamers dying for a CCG / Monopoly hybrid). Not bad. Not bad at all.[Via Joystiq]
