Cranius and Sharm team up for duo album
Folks who enjoy the World of Warcraft musical scene probably already recognize the names Cranius and Sharm. Individually, these two people have each created huge swaths of music that've inspired WoW players for year. That's why it's so exciting that the two of them are teaming up to release a duo album. The album will consist of entirely original work -- no parodies, riffs, or mere covers of other people's songs. The pair had tried to make the collaboration work while Sharm was in the U.K., but things weren't working out so well. What to do? Sharm jumped on a plane and flew out to Seattle, where Sharm and Cranius will spend the next few months recording the album. Here's hoping everything goes smoothly and quickly. We can't wait to hear the results! And while it's exciting that the album is entirely original, we wouldn't hate a fresh cover of Darrowshire with some duet action.
WoW Moviewatch: Alexstrasza
It's been a while since we've had a re-run of Alexstrasza. As we all get geared up to mount Deathwing and ride him into the ground, it's time we take a moment and look back at the history of the red lady. This video has always been a favorite of mine. Granted, the original song was created by Lady Gaga. I acknowledge that this fact alone disqualifies this song for play in many parts of the country, but not here. The tune is catchy, the lyrics were interpreted well into WoW, and the performance was dead on. When patch 4.3 comes around, this will be my soundtrack as we get ready to throw down with the black dragon of mayhem. Interested in the wide world of machinima? WoW Moviewatch: Dire Wolves
Work warning: Violence exists in this video. You're as shocked as I am. This video from Bloodvein is a trailer for a rated BG team called Dire Wolves. If you don't recognize the computer's voice, we'll help you out: That's none other than the incredibly talented Sharm. We've seen a lot of guild trailers and inspirational spots for raid teams, but this is the first trailer for a rated battleground group that I can recall. The video eschews plot but is still fairly epic. I can definitely see this video helping to get members psyched and pumped up before some rated BG matches. The Windows joke at the end is also well worth the laugh. The animation and graphics are amazing as always, which is what we've come to expect from Bloodvein. WoW Moviewatch: Draenei
Draenei by Sharm is sort of a love song to one of the finest races on Azeroth. (That's the draenei, in case that's not clear.) The video was mostly created to apply some images to the song, although the video is obviously mostly centered on the music. The lyrics are just fine; I don't mean to disparage them, it's just that my focus on this piece is how well Sharm performs the song. She's really got one hell of a voice, and she manages to bring the guns to nearly every piece of music she performs. By the way, this is a parody of Katy Perry's E.T., if you don't recognize it. WoW Moviewatch: Why Can't I Raid?
Why Can't I Raid? was among my first exposures to the talented Sharm (who I called TaintedLore back then). The video itself was created by Leonarddum. While the auto-tune was a tad thick in this performance, that just mirrors the use of auto-tune in Rihanna's Unfaithful. The lyrics paint the heartbroken disappointment of a raider who can never quite get a raiding spot. That's the kind of thing that can just crush a player's interest in the game after a while, and Sharm does a good job of illustrating the frustration. While I doubt she intended this parody to be an intense analysis of the game, I can't help but think there are more than a few raid leaders who would benefit by listening to it. WoW Moviewatch: Take My Quest
TaintedLore is back with a new video titled Take My Quest. This video was created by ViKarious Productions. (That's not a typo -- the "K" is capital in their name.) Of course, the singing itself is by Sharm. I think I may need to brush up on my pop music, because I couldn't be sure whether the song is a parody, or a completely original work.At any rate, the video work in this piece is pretty good. It's got a good variety of action and models, all which come together in proper harmony with the song. I've not seen anything by ViKarious before, so this was a pretty good break onto the scene for them.My only complaint, of course, is the return of Auto-Tune. I've always enjoy Sharm's singing, and think she could be fairly talented. Like I said when Why I Raid? was released, I guess auto-tune could be being used for artistic reasons, but it's just not necessary. The voice work is great without it.Edit: There's a rumor this may be a parody of the Destiny's Child song, Say My Name. Interested in the wide world of machinima? WoW Moviewatch: The Womanizer Song
Warning: This song has a few very mild sexual references but definitely some scantily clad character models.We've not covered Sharm much before, who goes by the user name taintedlore over on YouTube. She's a UK artist, and has been racking up an impressive body of work. She does mostly parody videos, and seems to be expanding on the machinima quality in her songs. Her early work was mostly about the music, but the video aspects have been getting much stronger as she goes along.The Womanizer Song isn't about what you might think at first. The song is focused on those chaps who choose to play female characters. The video is light fare, and Sharm's singing is catchy and convincing. I don't have any opinions on the subject, but I don't think Sharm is necessarily looking to haul out the pitchforks and torches on the "womanizers" as much as she's just looking to make a joke about it.The video itself is great for the genre, though. The fast scenes, quick cutting, and overall lighthearted tableau make for easy smiles. I don't think stylizing the models any further would have been helpful.
