As part of its recent quarterly earnings announcement, Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold ten million copies through Aug. 16. These sales helped lead the company to a staggering $433.8 million in revenue in the third quarter, over twice as much as the same quarter last fiscal year. For comparison, the PS2 version of GTA: San Andreas sold 12 million copies worldwide. During a conference call, the company said it would continue to promote GTA IV through the holiday season, and that it expected lifetime sales for the game to "track well ahead of any previous GTA title."

Gamedaily has the report that Xfire, the online service for gamers (that we have coordinated a few events with in the past), has broken a whopping ten million users. That, you'll probably realize, is just as many as World of Warcraft, and in fact, while Xfire apparently has support for over 1,200 games, World of Warcraft always seems to rank pretty high on the list.In fact, our friends at Xfire have another number that they've shared with us: in the month of April alone, Xfire users spent 16,000 years online -- that is, if you add up all the time spent online by all the users of the client just in April, you get a time period longer than pretty much the whole history of civilization on Earth. That's huge.Which makes us wonder just how long players actually spend in WoW -- surely not all WoW players are using Xfire, so the number has to be much bigger than that. At any rate, Xfire is apparently banging, and odds are that WoW is playing a big part.

And the good times just keep on rolling for Nintendo. Stocks are up, confidence is high, and Mario hasn't starred in a sports game for close to a year. (A streak that will soon end with Mario Hoops: 3 on 3, alas.) Here's another reason to toss a few down, Shiggy: Japanese newspaper Kyoto Simbun reports that sales for the Nintendo DS in Japan have hit ten million, making it the fastest-selling system (console or otherwise) in the country's history.Worldwide estimates of Nintendo DS and DS Lite sales are currently hovering around 22 million, which means that almost half of systems sold worldwide were done so in the Land of the Rising Sun. Another impressive statistic: around 8% of all Japanese citizens own the system. What does that mean? A cute girl on the street has a one in twelve chance of owning a DS. We like those odds.[Thanks, Romath!][via Joystiq]
