    Here at WoW.com, we're on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere. Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment and you may see it here tomorrow! Take a look at the links below, and be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites. I love the picture of Velen shown above for a couple of different reasons. It's a gorgeous piece of artwork, but the bigger reason is the expression on Velen's face -- he looks mildly baffled, like he's shrugging his shoulders and saying "Uhhhh, I don't know!" To me, the thought of an alien over 10,000 years making that noncommittal grunt of vague confusion is just endlessly entertaining. It's OK, Velen. Today we've got a few how-to posts from around the blogosphere. Maybe these will clear up a few things: Falling Leaves and Wings fills us in on how to grind Timbermaw reputation.   • Oh, what fresh hell is this?

    Teech from Cenarion Circle penned a brief note on the forums today about the utter agony of farming Timbermaw Hold reputation at level 70. It seems like a lot of people are revisiting this particular rep grind in the interest of obtaining "The Diplomat" title and Achievement in Wrath, for which you need to be Exalted with Sporereggar, the Timbermaw, and the Mag'har/Kurenai. I'm giving some thought to doing it myself because I've already gotten to exalted with Sporereggar and the Mag'har on my main, but Timbermaw is...something else entirely. As a matter of fact, Timbermaw makes no sense. I can understand getting a Diplomat title for being an Alliance or Horde liasion to the embattled peoples of Outland no matter how bad their sense of tabard design, but someone's going to have to explain to me how committing genocide on behalf of a pissed-off subgroup of bears in loincloths does anything to advance the cause of diplomacy in Azeroth. Why are we so willing to believe the story being peddled by the first furbolg we see in Felwood? For all we know there's nothing wrong with the other furbolg tribes that some micro-lending couldn't cure. And let's face, it, there are other factions in the game for whom both the Alliance and Horde would be much better served by maintaining close diplomatic ties. Take the Consortium, for example. They ask you to lay waste to their colleagues all the time, but at least everyone concerned makes a buck off of it. What do the Timbermaw have to offer but a tunnel that you can fly over? Isn't the national interest of the Horde or Alliance better served by pursuing ties to factions with lots of money or weapons, or at least a massive grudge against things we already hate, rather than involving ourselves in some pointless internecine spat among NPC's whose death animation makes me squirm?Yeah, I might just be mad I have to kill so many of them. I'll grant that the dubious honor of most legendarily awful rep grind of all time still seems to belong to the Wintersaber Trainers (although the Cenarion Circle is also getting a lot of grief in the thread), but at least the Trainers' rep isn't linked to an amusingly ironic new title. Now if you'll pardon me, I have to go slaughter another several dozen bear men in the interests of social justice for...I'm not sure. Other bears who claim it's the right thing to do. But I get something out of it anyhow, and that makes me an ambassadorial hero.

  • WoW Insider's top 10 Wrath of the Lich King achievements

    You may have heard that Wrath of the Lich King will add Xbox Live or Steam-esque achievements to World of Warcraft. There are bound to be two kinds of responses to this. Some folks will say, "Oh great, as if World of Warcraft needed to be more mindlessly grind-tastic!" Others, though, will jump at the chance to show just how dedicated they are to their favorite game. The idea's not totally new to MMOs, though; something similar exists in The Lord of the Rings Online's Deed system.Anyway, our sister site WoW Insider (your source for in-depth WoW news and features -- cha-ching!) has listed its top 10 favorite achievements in the vast new tome of things to go nuts over. Some of them are listed because they're hilarious, like "They Love Me In That Tunnel." Others, because they're historic, like "The Alterac Blitz." You'll need to be pretty WoW literate to get what's so great about most of them, though.Even if you think achievements are a soul-crushing waste of time, these will still make you smile.   • Ten of our favorite Achievements

    A few readers have emailed us recently asking just what kinds of things to expect in the Achievements releasing with Wrath of the Lich King later this year. There are going to be over 500 of them (with more added later), and while there are a few standard things you might expect (getting Exalted with all the reputations, exploring the world, and maxing out your character), there are lots more that are meant to do what Achievements do best: extend gameplay.So we hunted through all the Achievements in the beta, and pulled out ten that we really liked. Not all of these are unique (for the Alterac Valley time limit one, there is actually one of those for every battleground in the game), but all of them are great examples of why you should be excited about Achievements when they hit the live realms.   • Player vs. Everything: Pointless mini-zones

    How pointless are so-called "pointless mini-zones," really? Michael did a post the other day which examined the history of a zone in EverQuest called Surefall Glade. Hitting his links gave me a nice little walk down memory lane -- I have fond memories of Surefall, being an old-school EQ fan who cut his teeth in Qeynos Hills, back in the day. There really isn't all that much to the zone, though. It's like the article says: a cabin, a lake, an archery range, and a few hidden caves with some bears. There's nothing to do but raise your fletching skill, and nothing to kill that's worth killing. Eventually they added some stuff to it, but it was still never anything more than a small, transitional town. Surefall was the essence of a pointless mini-zone: Most players never had any compelling reason to go there. Still, did it add something to the game with its mere presence? Like Moonglade in World of Warcraft, you could argue that it was kind of a neat place for players to discover and hang out. We get so focused on the "content" of these games that sometimes we forget that exploring a new zone you've never seen before, even if there's really nothing to do there, is content in its own right. Besides, does every single zone in our MMOGs have to be a big quest hub tied to a specific zone? Can't some places just be places?

  • New WoTLK zone Grizzly Hills now previewing on the main WoW site

    We have some awesome WoTLK news for you today, as Blizzard has just updated their site with a preview of the Grizzly Hills, a Northrend zone that will adjoin the Howling Fjord. Not only are there some really beautiful screen shots, but there's a video with a fly-through tour of parts of the zone, show casing what look to be Human, Orcish, and Furbolg settlements.The zone will be the home of the Grizzlemaw Furbolgs, a peaceful tribe that is currently arming for war due to encroachment by trappers and the goblin Venture Company, as well as an invasion by the undead Drakkari Ice Trolls (Who are listed on the Beastiary page, although still grayed out). Not only does the zone look amazing, but it sounds like there's going to be a lot of great lore and story to go with it as well. It's good to see an old nemesis return in the form of the Venture Company, whom we really haven't seen much of since Stranglethorn Vale, and hopefully we'll have one more Furbolg tribe to ally with in the Grizzlemaw. It's also mentioned that they worship a giant bear that roams the wilderness, which feels like it could lead to a bit of new lore for druids as well perhaps, especially if the bear is related to Ursoc and Ursol somehow. Finally, the Drakkari Ice Trolls seem to have gone the same way as the Mossflayers, and it should be interesting to find out how they fell.
