WoW Europe's Valentine's Day contest seems to be becoming an annual event, which should be good news for our EU brethren. Vaneras officially announced the contest and its rules Monday, which you can find on the official EU website. It seems pretty straightforward, as far as what you need to do. Make a Valentine's Day card! You know, like those ones you handed out in school as a little kid? If you need to see some examples before you get crackin' on it yourself, they still have last year's winners on display for all to see. They're taking submissions from now until February 1st, and you're limited to five submissions per household. There are some regional restrictions and the usual terms and conditions you'll need to agree to, so head on over and check it out! Good luck to everyone that enters, we look forward to seeing the winners! Love is in the Air and on WoW Insider. Check out our continuing coverage of the event and our guide to earning the achievement. And you better hurry; the holiday only lasts five days!

Our hearts may return to their regularly scheduled descent into blackness, Azeroth is leaving Valentine's Day behind today. At least, that's what the calendar says.I hope everyone received all they had hoped for in WoW during this event, or you're in for a mighty long wait to try again. I personally received a number of scandalous dresses and fancy baskets over the course of the last few days. I don't have much to complain about this time around, except for the fact that it is always a little disappointing when one of Azeroth's many holidays comes to a close.Even if the Valentine's Day holiday is quite fun in WoW, I still have a habit of wondering what could have been done better for any given event. I think it would have been great if voting for your favorite faction leader actually worked, and had some sort of effect. For example, if Tyrande winning for the day gave those that voted for her a buff. "Tyrande's Thanks" or "Sylvanas' Satisfaction" or somesuch. Even if it didn't do anything, having the buff would be really fun. Of course, I'm a big supporter of spells having extra sparkles just for the sake of having sparkles, so maybe only I would be interested in that. After all, Prayer of Mending turning into a laser gun kept me from quitting my priest early on in The Burning Crusade. Love is in the Air and on WoW Insider. Check out our continuing coverage of the event and our guide to earning the achievement. And you better hurry; the holiday only lasts five days!

  • D3 Publisher's not-so-simple Valentine

D3 Publisher expressed their love for GameSetWatch with this beautiful box of Valentine's chocolates. We love D3 as well, but we will have to be content with pictures of the other site's gift. It truly is one of the fanciest Valentines we've seen, especially considering that it was given not to a paramour but to a business contact. The box comes printed with Ben 10, Naruto, Dark Sector, and Puzzle Quest characters, and all of the candies feature the sharp-looking D3 logo. That character-emblazoned box? Also chocolate. If we were to receive one of these, we'd never eat it, choosing to preserve it forever as a collectible. Then in a few years we'd realize that we were keeping old food and we'd throw it out in a panic.

WoW-Europe.com offers up some Valentines Day fun today, showing off the winners of their Valentine's Day art contest, as well as offering a free Valentine's Day e-card to send to your sweetie. Interestingly enough, a lot of the winners seem to have had Murlocs on their minds. Not exactly the most romantic Warcraft race that I can think of, personally. Well, I suppose a bouquet of Murloc Heads to a sweetie who's been killed by them one too many times could technically be a pretty romantic gesture. You know, in a "I will crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and let you hear the lamentation of their womenfolk" way. Do Murlocs even have womenfolk? I suppose they must, considering how many of them there are. Anyway, check them out, and have a happy Valentine's Day!

The next stop on our MMO love tour brings us to Everquest II. YouTube machinimator monkeydarren made this video for his wife. It was the first dance at their wedding!I haven't seen many EQ2 videos, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the range of animations that they have, as well as the camera control. He was even able to give her a wedding ring and propose to her. When Bryan Adams wrote this song, I'll bet he never pictured it being used for a virtual wedding, but it fits!

(UPDATE: Videos are now under the jump. On this special day dedicated to love, I've chosen not one, but two videos! Both are NSFW, but sum up Valentine's Day perfectly. They contain pixel nudity and adult content. You've been warned.)The first video was recommended by #machinima on Quakenet (IRC). "First of May" centers around what to do with your special friends when Spring arrives. The machinimator, Mike "Spiff" Booth, recreates Jonathan Coulton songs set in World of Warcraft, with the most popular being Code Monkey, another love song.[Thanks, #machinima!]Previously on Moviewatch ...Both videos after the jump.

Machinima is tough to make in a game like Lord of the Rings Online. Most of the videos out there are music videos, but I wanted to rep the LOTRO crowd in my Valentine's videofest! LOTRO musicians sure have come a long way since I tried the game in beta. All that I could muster was the same note over and over until someone begged me to stop, or threatened to report me. However, some creative individuals have come up with entire songs, coordinated with different players and instruments!Read on for commentary and another video ...

This machinima is almost three years old, yet it still holds up today. Here Without You, by Dimoroc, doesn't have special effects, a flashy intro, or even any dialogue. It tells the story of a Forsaken and how they became that way. Using music and powerful scenes, he is able to convey emotion that I did not think possible of World of Warcraft. The story of Dimoroc himself is a mystery. He showed up at Warcraftmovies, uploaded this one video, and then disappeared shortly after. Almost two years later, he popped up under a different account to thank everyone for their comments, then disappeared again. However, present or not, he has left a lasting impression on the WoW machinima community. If you're out there, Dimoroc, thank you for creating one of the few machinimas that made me cry!Previously on Moviewatch ...

I came across this machinima while on my quest for the perfect video Valentine. Olibith weaved a cute World of Warcraft tale of love to the sweet sounds of Frank and Nancy Sinatra. The best part was that he appears to have dedicated it to his wife and child. Say it with me now -- "Awww!"While most of Olibith's material is pretty racy, this video isn't so bad. I must warn the viewers that there is some innuendo, though. Overall, I thought it was adorable to see the two gnomes experiencing the joys of courtship.

In January 2006, a group of friends, including Dopefish and Malu05, decided to create a community machinima project, Nogg-aholic Collaboration, or NAC, to showcase World of Warcraft in ways that they felt had not been done before. Named after the time period in which it was filmed, February 2006, My Burning Valentine was intended to highlight what NAC was all about, as well as its guidelines. However, the more that they explored the depths of their creativity, the less that they wanted to show off this film!As they continued to add to the guidelines for NAC, the release date was being pushed farther back. In the end, their interest waned, so they closed down the forum and moved on, leaving this video behind as a memory. For further explanation of the project, as well as more clips, check out Dopefish's video page for My Burning Valentine.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Valentine's Day is coming on February 14th, and I'm in the mood for love -- machinima love, that is! Over the next few days, I'll be showcasing Valentines and love-themed machinima. If you've created a video ode to that special NPC in your life, let us know! The first video, released on Valentine's Day in 2007, actually comes from the World of Warcraft staff. It is a parody of those cheesy jewelry commercials on television. Ladies of WoW, what is your ideal gift? It's that time of year again: Love is in the Air in the capital cities of Azeroth. From now until the 15th, that sweet and sinister holiday where you show your affection to your fellow citizens and your faction leaders is upon us. Be sure to visit your local Innkeeper for a supply of perfume, cologne, and Love Tokens, and see if you can finally capture Qwee Q. Peddlefeet this year, or at least get that dress you've always wanted. Be on the lookout for new things as well, such as the Love Rocket and the Romantic Picnic Basket, which World of Raids already sniffed out for us back in November. Go out, enjoy, and share the season -- at least until you find out who's behind this whole strange mess of amore! %Gallery-15723% Love is in the Air and on WoW Insider. • Sharing the love of gaming

So, Valentine's Day is over and the forced Hallmark holiday of love has passed. However, it is Sunday and some casual fluff is in order. 1UP had a cute little piece earlier this week about gamers in love. There's even one disgustingly adorable story of a Nintendo rep. falling in love with a girl working at Gamestop -- they even had a Mario cake at their wedding. While covering the midnight World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade launch it was surprising to find so many couples in line. The initial thought that the girls were there to keep the boyfriend company quickly faded when it turned out a majority of them were playing the game together. We've discussed couples who game together before, but we gotta wonder, in the break-up, who gets to keep the consoles and games?See also: Women's Health Mag: Grab your man's joystiq joystick

Those crafty folk at Lionhead Studios must have taken a break from developing Fable 2. Why, you ask? Because they had time to come up with a nice Valentine for us all to share on this capitalist romantic holiday. It's not any ordinary Valentine either. Oh, no, this one is special. We won't spoil the surprise, save to say that this particular Valentine is unique. Check it out after the break. Don't say we didn't warn you, though.

For those currently entangled in a relationship, February 14th is a day marked by loving glances, heart-shaped boxes of chocolate and, most pleasant of all, the sting of an arrow fired into your back by some sort of winged creature. Gamers may not be able to escape the commotion of commercial emotion, but we can certainly customize the occasion to suit our own, admittedly depraved tastes. If your significant other happens to be a significant gamer, be sure to send one of our Valentine's cards in their general direction. Relentlessly cheesy, inherently intimate and quite regrettable in the long run, the gallery presented below truly captures what love is all about. %Gallery-1631%

It looks like Apple has been able to produce the new Airport Extreme base stations a little faster than expected. No longer is the estimated ship date 'February,' which is a little vague. The Apple Store now tells us that the base stations will be shipping in 2-3 weeks (mid-February!).Also of note, reader Scott Spencer was informed by Apple that his Airport Extreme would be shipping on or before February 14th. Aww, Apple, what a nice Valentine's Day gift.

  • Lead time for iPod engraving grows short

Want to order an engraved iPod for Valentines day? Time's running out. To order a laser-engraved iPod to say that certain-something to your certain-someone, you better get your order in no later than the 6th of February. Think of all the wonderful things you could say: "Be my Valentine", "I love you forever", or "Two months left until taxes are due". Whatever. Or you could look for inspiration at methodshop's list of rejected iPod engravings: "Not responsible for prolonged damage to the ear & brain", "Not to be used as a suppository", and "This iPod will self destruct in 1 year" were all supposedly denied by Apple. Of course, once it's engraved, it can't be returned--but neither can your heart.
