Were you unsatisfied with Valhalla Knights 2? Well, it sure seems like its publisher Marvelous was, for the game is getting a complete makeover and repackaging. Newly dubbed as Valhalla Knights 2: Battle Stance, the K2 developed RPG is getting an all-new battle system and control scheme, said to give it more Monster Hunter-like action. Further MH emulation includes the reduction of six party members down to four (we also wouldn't be surprised if this meant a 4-player ad hoc mode was in the works too ... just saying). Further tweaks and changes are: new quests, items and the addition of teleportation points called Gate Crystals. So far, Battle Stance has been announced only in Japan. • Valhalla Knights 2 cuts into North America Oct. 1

Valhalla Knights 2 finally has a solid North American release date now that the game has gone gold. October 1 is the day to mark on your calendar for this Norse-flavored RPG from XSEED. The game features six-member party battles as well as ad hoc co-op and versus battles. With a story "penned by the scenario writer of Final Fantasy XII" and a $30 price tag, we'd say there seems to be a whole lot of value in the second Valhalla Knights title.%Gallery-28079%

Nothing can beat a battle montage. This trailer for Valhalla Knights 2 shows off several different battles with several different types of characters. The action seems very fast-paced and confusing, but it probably becomes second nature after playing for just a few minutes. Of course, the characters in the trailer seem way overpowered as well, but the game might be that easy. We'll find out when the title launches near the end of September.

  • Valhalla Knights 2 may be unusually long

Most handheld games are relatively short (good example: God of War: Chains of Olympus). But, XSEED's not going to have any of that. Their upcoming PSP-exclusive RPG, Valhalla Knight 2, is going to be almost-obnoxiously long. According to Kotaku, the game will clock in at least 60 hours to complete, and up to 135 hours to "fully complete it." We don't know what they're putting in this game, but we hope it's compelling enough to warrant such an unusually lengthy play time.[Thanks, Kyle P.!]%Gallery-28079%

Localizers Xseed have plans to tweak the US version of Valhalla Knights 2 and streamline the difficulty, according to Siliconera. Changes being made include easier level ups, which means less time grinding. Items will also drop more frequently. Lastly, save game data from the first Valhalla Knights can be used to get a free familiar and a helpful elf ally. The story is also said to be more cohesive than the first. An official date for North America has yet to be announced, but retail listings suggest a September 23, 2008 release.

  • Valhalla Knights 2: more of the same

It's difficult to truly grasp the feel of an RPG in an environment like E3. There's just too much hustle and bustle, and there simply isn't enough time to get into the game. Perhaps we need more time with Valhalla Knights 2, but in our brief time with the title, it really felt like "more of the same." For RPG-starved PSP fans, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, the dated visuals and presentation certainly don't inspire. There is some hope, though. The trailer shows that there is an experienced staff working on this sequel. The original story is written by the scenario writer of Final Fantasy XII, Miwa Shoda. There's also new classes, monsters and co-operative play over Ad-Hoc. There are a lot of features to highlight -- but will that be enough to stand out in a library of other PSP RPGs?%Gallery-28079%

PSP is getting yet another exclusive RPG in the form of Valhalla Knights 2. IGN has some stunning concept art on display, showing the various locales players can expect to visit whilst on their quest. However, we remind our readers that unfortunately, the game doesn't look quite as detailed as the art. Hopefully, the majesty featured in these stills will find its way into the spirit of the game's storytelling.

  • Valhalla Knights 2 feels primitive in new vid

Valhalla Knights 2 is striking PSP later this year. RPG fans may be glad to get a brand new game to play on the handheld, but we can't help but feel underwhelmed by the presentation. After games like Crisis Core have spoiled us with its lush visuals and plentiful voice acting, we have to say that this looks a bit ... primitive. The N64-era textures certainly don't help either.

  • XSEED inks Marvelous deal, Valhalla Knights II confirmed

Sometimes one set of hands just isn't enough to bring games stateside. At least, that's the thinking over at niche game publisher XSEED, which just signed a co-publishing deal with Harvest Moon virtuoso Marvelous Entertainment. The pair note that the agreement will help let Marvelous set up shop here in the US, while XSEED will help localize "key" titles from the Japanese studio. While the news makes us think that we'll soon be up to our eyeballs in farming sims, XSEED has only thus far confirmed that it will help localize Valhalla Knights II, though the companies note that additional game announcements will follow shortly. The sequel to last year's PSP action RPG Valhalla Knights is expected to ship this fall, with XSEED marketing guru Ken Berry stating belief that the game "will help to set the quality standard high for all future games coming out of this deal." That's certainly a lofty expectation for a sequel to a game that was largely panned by critics last year.

PSP fans will be familiar with both Marvelous Entertainment and XSEED Games. Both have been key supporters of the PSP through a number of niche games for the handheld. The two companies have announced a new partnership, in which XSEED will support Marvelous Entertainment in bringing their titles over to North America. Valhalla Knights 2 for the PSP will be the first title to be released under this partnership, which is scheduled to launch in Fall 2008. Valhalla Knights 2 is a follow-up to the previous PSP-exclusive action RPG. The sequel adds new races, job classes, weapons, magic spells, foes, armor, and more. Players will be able to partake in real-time 6 on 6 battles. The game supports 2 player ad-hoc network play, which enables co-op and versus modes. Expect more details on Valhalla Knights 2 and other titles from this partnership in the future.

  • New Valhalla Knights 2 class revealed

Normally, you know everything you need to about a game well before its release nowadays. Back when the internets were just a series of tubes in a cradle, we had to rely on magazines to feed us information only on select titles -- often after the games were released. So to hear that Marvelous waited until a month prior to their release of Valhalla Knights 2 to talk about one of their character classes (something that should be a major talking point) is a surprise. The new class is a martial arts sort of group who call themselves Akatoki. Apparently, neither the male nor female class really enjoys wearing a top. But of course, the latter has to for fairly obvious reasons. This game hasn't been picked up for localization outside of Japan yet, but the natural course of things dictates that sequels will normally come out, regardless how the first title sold. Do you hear us, Nippon Ichi and Namco-Bandai? We want Ar Tonelico 2. We won't forget. We also want this.

As you may or may not know, Valhalla Knights 2 is approaching its release date in Japan. May 29 isn't that far away, folks, so the onslaught of Japanese TV advertisements has begun. It's a short clip, blazing through cinematic and battle scenes so fast you might've thought you saw some sort of Valkyrie Profile clip. But you did not. You saw Valhalla Knights 2. And you were still impressed.[Update: fixed video positioning; apologies for that!]

So, Valhalla Knights 2 gets a new trailer in preparation for the game's Japanese release on May 29. If you live in Japan (most probably not) and plan on picking up Valhalla Knights 2, you might want to pre-order and grab the free soundtrack bonus offer. Titled "Sounds of Valhalla Knights," the soundtrack contains 20 songs from the game, and most of which come from former Square Enix sound editor, Shohiro Nakaoka. Nakaoka has worked as a sound editor on such games as Final Fantasy XII, Front Mission 4, and Xenogears. For those non-Japanese interested in getting this sequel to the fantasy-themed RPG Valhalla Knights, we're hoping that your favorite import sites will carry the pre-order bonus. If not, there's always Ebay.[Via PSPHyper]

While the first game had lukewarm reception, there wasn't much in terms of dungeon crawlers on the PSP at the time. It was okay. Now the title is getting a sequel and it's hitting shelves in Japan on May 29th. Marvelous boasts the game will have over 80 quests in the main story and it can be assumed more stuff on the side. Humans and Halflings are confirmed for playable characters, but everything else is a mystery. We'll keep you posted as more stuff pops out of the dungeons, so to speak.

What can we say? The first Valhalla Knights game was okay at best. We can't tell if the stuff that hampered the first title will be ironed out in the sequel unless we get to sit down and play the darn thing. Since that's not likely for a while longer, we digress. In any case, check out the trailer even if it's sort of difficult to hear from all the TGS hubbub. You won't see much, though. Artwork, some blurry action, and lots of crystals. Pretty, pretty crystals and arcana circle things.
