Prizefighter dev counted out, Take-Two 'assessing' staff
Just under a month after shipping Don King Presents Prizefighter for Xbox 360, UK-based Venom Games is reportedly closing up shop. Computer and Video Games cites a source at the company, who divulged that Venom staff were informed of the closure Wednesday. We contacted Take-Two, who published Prizefighter under its 2K Sports label, and were told by a spokesperson that it is currently "assessing the role of Venom Games in Take-Two's overall global studio system," and "in a consultation with the employees of Venom in relation to possible redundancies at the studio."
2K pulls wraps off Don King Presents: Prizefighter
So, how does Don King spend his time when he's not killing dudes, crafting boxing superstars or randomly appearing on the VGAs? Well, he's down in his basement crafting video games, of course! Next spring, the fruits of his labor, Don King Presents: Prizefighter will finally be loosed upon the world thanks to 2K Games. Helping Don out will be 2K developer Venom Games (the guys that did Rocky and Rocky Legends). Though the game will include the boxing you'd expect, players will apparently also be challenged with "overcoming adversity and avoiding temptation." Though we're intrigued by the "real-life fight scenarios, story-driven gameplay and photo-realistic graphics" the press release promises, there's a bigger question on our minds: This thing's only coming to Xbox 360, Wii and DS. Why is the PS3 not getting any love?
Prey Limited Editions revealed
We're only a few weeks away from the release of Prey, and 3D Realms is whetting the appetite of collectors with the announcement of the game's limited edition packaging. For an extra $10, you'll get the DVD edition of the game in a shiny metal box that includes a book of artwork and two pewter figurines (three, if you pre-order now). Prey web site fully operational
2K Games and 3D Realms have re-launched the web site for Prey, their new sci-fi shooter powered by the Doom 3 engine. In addition to updated screens and wallpaper, you'll find some gameplay vids that demonstrate main character Tommy's wall walking, death walking, and spirit mode abilities. Porting Prey
The coders and artists behind the Xbox 360 version of Human Head's Prey comment on the specific challenges of bringing the game to the next-gen console (The logos above are from the game's Xbox Live achievements). Predictable issues, but still an interesting read. According to these guys, the PC version of the gravity-defying FPS is already "pixel perfect." Having heard great things about this effort, I'll be praying that Prey is a flawless port. [Via Team Xbox]
