One thing I'm sure a lot of iPhone fans were upset about this week was the lack of an announcement of video broadcasting capability in the 3G iPhone. I mean, OMG, how else are we supposed to make obsessive fan videos of Britney Spears?!Don't worry, the brilliant folks at Flixwagon are demonstrating live vidcasts from a jailbroken iPhone and are apparently working towards a true iPhone app that will work "as long as your battery lasts." TV networks? Who needs 'em! We'll make our own entertainment. Thanks to Chris Albrecht at NewTeeVee.com for the tip!

  • BlizzCast gets a launch date

According to Blizzplanet, the first official Blizzard podcast is done and currently being translated for different regions. It will be available on Thursday, January 10 if all goes well. Blizzard has been tight-lipped about the imminent Patch 2.4. Perhaps they will be revealing some details about the Sunwell Plateau in this podcast. This first podcast will be audio only, but future ones are promised to be vidcasts. Along with news and information about the game, it will also include questions from the players (though hopefully not from the General forums.)If you can't listen to it on Thursday, check in here and we'll list the highlights.[via MMO-Champion]

Blizzplanet got a hold of more details of Blizzard's newly announced video podcast. You read that right, it's not just a podcast, but a video podcast. And it's coming the first week of January.Along with the previously announced interviews with WoW Lead Designer Jeff Kaplan about the upcoming Patch 2.4 Sunwell content and Art Director Sam Didier, fans will get their say as well. Blizzard will be soliciting questions from the players and giving replies to Community Managers Karune and Nethaera. I suppose that means we'll be seeing them on the Blizzcast as well.Video podcasting is tricky business. Production value can make or break it. Fortunately, Blizzard is known for their high level of production value in everything they do, so I am looking forward to seeing how this goes. Either way, the content may trump all since we all want to know more about Sunwell. But I'm also a little suspicious of the "first week in January" promise for the first Blizzcast. Coming out of a two week holiday, it will be a miracle for any company to pull off something as labor intensive as a video podcast. Time will tell.[via MMO-Champion]EDIT: After the writing of this article, Blizzard has confirmed that the first installment will be an audio podcast.

  • Mahalo Daily ponders WoW addiction

We're gonna ask you to remember back, way back, to BlizzCon 2007 wherein one Ms. Veronica Belmont – friend of the 'stiq – interviewed the legendary Leeroy Jenkins (read: Leeeerrooyyy Jenkins). That video, recorded nearly 3 months ago to the day, was meant as a preview, or tease if you will, of her upcoming Mahalo Daily video podcast. Now, with the podcast underway, she's returned to the grist of BlizzCon for Mahalo Daily's fourth installment titled, naturally, "Video Game Addiction." Our favorite part? "Probably not a good question to ask me." Something told us he was going to say that.

  • HD video comes to iTunes -- in video podcast form only

What's this? High def video content available on the iTunes store? Ah, bullocks, it's only in the form of video podcasts available from the Washington Post. While we're still left desperately wishing iTunes would actually sell us some content in a format that would actually look good on a large HDTV, the Washington Post isn't exactly blowing it out with its poorly encoded, 250MB vidcasts. Still, unless you're willing to dive in and hack that Apple TV, this is about the only HDTV you're gonna get on yours for the time being, so grin and bear it.

MacTV has posted a really interesting videocast 'flashback' on the early days of computing in 1981 (iTMS link), including news footage and computing expo coverage.  An intriguing but brief interview with "multi-millionaire Steve Jobs" made it into the vidcast, and barring any discussions of how ruthless his Steveness may be, he exhibited the same kind of well-spoken zest for computing in 1981 that he still has on stage today. At the least, it's a short but fun glimpse at what all this computer stuff was like 25 years ago. If you haven't subscribed to the MacTV vidcast (or the iPod edition) yet, this is a great time to start. They consistently post interesting video bits like this both new and old, covering topics you typically won't see elsewhere.

  • New MacBreak podcast from Leo and friends

Yet another vidcast (and site) from Leo and friends has launched in the iTMS by the name of MacBreak (iTMS link). Its inaugural episode stars Leo Laporte, Alex Lindsay, Amber MacArthur and a new face in the Leo party: Emery Wells. This first episode is roughly 30 minutes of video coverage from the Macworld Expo floor, with the gang running around checking out iPod accessories, the Best in Show software award winners, AJA video cards, new iLife goodness and, of course, the new Intel Macs. I actually thought the Mac section was a bit interesting, as Leo interviews an Apple rep on the new MacBook Pros and tosses a few curve balls, giving the rep a good run for his money. It's a great first episode, and the vidcast as a whole shows a lot of potential. It's very well produced (thanks to Alex and the Pixel Corps, maybe?), with great special effect transition goodness and a professional flow not found in many other podcasts. Definitely check it and their site out, as I'm sure there is much to come.

Now this is pretty cool: Apple has posted a series of eight video podcasts to the iTunes Music Store [link] that explain how to make a great podcast (both audio and video) with iLife '06. Topics include setting recording levels in GarageBand, making use of introductory music and sound effects, adding web links and images and editing video with iMovie HD.Check out these video tutorials, they contain some useful information.[Via Micro Persuasion]
