MTV takes a look at Blizzard's decision to add weather to their massively popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft, and -- more interestingly -- how they implemented it. "[E]ach sub-zone among the 11 where weather is currently available is now linked to a set of variables that allow for the possibility of precipitation. The variables have been set to make the potential weather appropriate, meaning heavy showers are more likely in one region and drizzles in another." For now the weather doesn't have any ancillary effects beyond enhanced atmosphere and verisimilitude. Blizzard is hesitant to add in side effects like wind slowing down your character or rain rusting your armor; though, they did suggest bonus effects like "more herbs grow after it rains."Blizzard is easing players into the new weather system. How long before wayward strangers in Azeroth start making small talk about the weather? Add in your own "Rain of Chaos" and "Frozen (snow) Throne" jokes here.

Well, just like the rest of you, I waited patiently all day for the servers to come back online to see all the pretty new bells & whistles in v1.10; especially the new weather effects. Unfortunately for me, the forecast on Lightninghoof must have been clear with no chance of showers, because I ran all over the updated zones trying to spot so much as a cloud & I saw nothing. How about you guys? Any of you storm chasers encounter any bad weather? Any rain in Ellywn Forest or snow over in Dwarf lands? Got any cool screenshots to share with us?

Here's a great weather Dashboard widget that makes Apple's Weather look downright anemic. WeatherBug Local Weather by WeatherBug displays your local weather, live radar shots, current news and even alerts and warnings for your area.Click the "Animate" button at the bottom of the screen and you're brought to a web page with the radar animation. It would be cool if this worked within the widget, but it's hardly a deal breaker. Check it out.

It's official. John Gruber, of Daring Fireball fame, is completely and utterly obsessed with Dashboard's Weather Widget. Not that long ago, he was posting lengthy discussions of how to hack the weather widget, so that you could force it to refresh and eradicate all doubt that you may possibly be looking at an out-dated weather report.
