Soulbound: A World of Warcraft-themed wedding
We've all heard about weddings that get taken over by overbearing relatives and fussy wedding planners -- celebrations that end up bearing not the slightest resemblance to the hopes, dreams and plans of the hapless bride and groom. Even when the couple keeps a firm hand on the steering wheel, some personal touches get shut outside the circle for fear of seeming inappropriate. You guessed it -- we're talking about geekery of all sorts, from gaming to sci-fi and fantasy and all the way down to garden-variety nerdiness. It's hard to find a place to give a nod to these sorts of interests in a more formal or traditional setting. Then there are those unabashed couples who let their so-called freak flags fly high and proud. But we don't think there's anything freaky at all about the wedding of World of Warcraft players Amanda and Jeremy. They encapsulated their WoW romance in a traditional celebration that nonetheless managed to pack in game references in ways even the uninitiated could appreciate. A talented artist, Amanda toiled for two months to create all the WoW-themed details. It was personal, it was romantic, and it was truly the event of a lifetime. %Gallery-164403%
Giant iPhone wedding cake threatens to devour us all
Or maybe it was devoured first? Jerry Brito emailed a link to his wedding cake photos, made by the good folks at Charm City Cakes. It's an astoundingly accurate rendering of an iPhone save one thing our own Dave Caolo spotted: four bars on AT&T? Wishful thinking, although in the context of a wedding cake, maybe it's a good signal. This is neither the first nor the last cake done as Apple gear, although it is certainly one of the best. But Charm City does nothing halfway, which you know if you've ever seen the show 'Ace of Cakes' on Food Network. Congratulations to Jerry and his wife!
AdventureQuest Worlds wedding attracts 11,000 guests
How many people would you choose to attend your wedding? Some go for a smaller and more intimate setting with just a handful of people. Over at the other extreme, some folks shell out for 1000+ of their closest friends to enjoy their special moment. Want to take it even further? You could be like the couple from Missouri that just tied the knot and had 11,000 people sitting in on the ceremony. Of course, the catch is that the wedding took place in AdventureQuest Worlds, and their guests attended virtually. Their private wedding room was cloned, which allowed for thousands of gamers to experience the celebrations along with then.The event was a success overall, and undoubtedly a lot easier to organize than a wedding of that scale would be in the real world. Weddings are notorious for the meticulous planning that comes before them, and equally for the little (hopefully inconsequential) things that tend to go wrong on the day. If we had to make a list of things we'd like not to happen during a loved one's wedding, "Troll raid" would be somewhere near the top. As fate would have it, Trolls did show up to raid the AQW wedding, but thankfully the guests took it in their stride, and cake was enjoyed by all.
Laptop cakes pay homage to internet dating
Shockingly enough, the image you see above isn't as radical as you probably think. Just last year we saw a San Francisco couple profess their inexplicable love for TiVo with a his and her cake arrangement, while another treated guests to a flavorful version of their wedding day playlist. This perky pair, however, decided to create cakes that would visually describe just how they ended up together, complete with on-screen profiles and a crossover cable (or something) with a heart along the way. Gives a whole new meaning to the networking category, now doesn't it?
Cake battle update: Horde wins (so far)!
The cake madness continues! Ackman from the Burning Legion got married recently and his (oh-so-supportive) wife agreed to a cake design of his choosing. His idea? A Horde crest identical to the one designed by Samwise. The cake looks absolutely awesome, if not necessarily delectable (are those real or fondant feathers?). Ackman attests to its edibility, though, as he describes the cake as chocolate fudge with mint frosting and fondant, highlighted with silver leafing. That certainly makes me hungry like an orc!To recap this cake battle, a couple of cakes that resemble the Alliance crest put the Alliance at two, while an Orc shield and one of Orgrimmar give the Hordies a score of three along with the cake pictured above. So, are any creative bakers up to the challenge of making another Alliance-themed cake? Maybe one of Stormwind or -- even more challenging, the Exodar!
