  • Cataclysm Zone Review: Wetlands

This article has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages. Editor's Note: This post contains spoilers for the upcoming Cataclysm expansion. Read at your own risk! Looks like the Wetlands just got a little wetter. (What the -- who took my sunglasses?!) The swamplands of Khaz Modan have gotten some updates -- some for the better, some for the worse, and some for the downright awesome. Dun Algaz The familiar twisting tunnels leading from Loch Modan to the Wetlands have remained intact, including the halfway-point town of Dun Algaz, still overrun by the Dragonmaw. Like many areas that haven't changed a whole lot, the questing here has been changed up slightly but mostly made shorter. In this case, your objective is retrieving some precious cargo -- and if you didn't guess alcohol was involved, you've forgotten that you're in dwarf country.

WoW.com readers, it's up to you to decide the fate of Turpen the Gnome Warlock with Choose My Adventure. Help test the site's new features by participating in this event, casting your vote toward the many aspects of Turpen and following his exploits on Alex Ziebart's WoW.com profile!Well, you guys wanted me to run Deadmines. As you can see, I ran Deadmines. Many thanks go to Urse (Healer), Child (Tank), and Sneafoo (Noob Rogue of Doom) for 4-manning the thing with me. Urse was pretty overleveled for the place so healing was hilariously easy, but Sneafoo made up for it by starting the run at level 12 and aggroing Gruul from the pirate ship.I went further than that, too. I didn't stop at Deadmines, I did Wailing Caverns, Blackfathom Deeps and Shadowfang Keep as well. I was kicking around the idea as soon as someone suggested Deadmines, but I didn't think I would manage to land a group for either of them. When I went out to the Barrens to get my Succubus (Angva) at level 20, that sealed the deal for me. I picked up the quest The Orb of Soran'ruk, and despite the fact that its quest rewards sucked, it gave me more reason to try and get the groups together. I put out a call to all of the various resources I knew, LFG and community chat channels (your server probably has a few good ones) and all of that, and managed to score a few groups.

  • Around Azeroth: A sunny day over Grim Batol

Enaress sends us this shot of Grim Batol. If you aren't familiar with its history, the short story is that it was once a Dwarven fortress, but is now being held by the Red Dragonflight, who attacks anyone drawing near. Enaress points out that, despite Blizzard's removal of many elite mobs from Azeroth, the guards of Grim Batol are still elites. Why guard a fortress that serves no real purpose, we wonder? (For those of you who appreciate a bit of lore, this shot is also available in wallpaper size.)Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? Because we'd love to see your idea of the best looking instance on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! %Gallery-1816%

Reader Robotusch sends in this shot from the Wetlands in Azeroth's Eastern Kingdoms. And though the Wetlands, a lower level Alliance zone, might not sound like an exciting place, Robotusch informs us, "when you're treated to such a misty twilight, one does have to stop for a second to wonder what the new day will bring for heroes and monsters in the lands of Azeroth." (For those of you who appreciate these twilight hours, the shot is also available in wallpaper size.)Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? The events set in motion by today's page will forever alter Kat's life and ultimately change her destiny. How will this all unfold? Time will tell, but there's a good chance you'll find out if you keep reading.I should warn everyone though -- there is a violent scene in one of today's panels, so read it at your own caution. Ah, the rain has finally stopped in Menethil, and the sun has dawned on a new day. Our heroine is left to ponder the events of the previous night, and ultimately decides to report it -- after all, you don't mess around when it comes to Naga. This page also introduces a new character to the story: Byron, one of the sentries of Menethil and a friend of our heroine. Welcome back! I have the next page in the tale ready for you to enjoy! I really like the art in this one -- I played around with a different style of lighting that I think lends itself well to this scene, and I think you'll like it.The story continues this week as we follow our new rain-soaked friend into her makeshift home on the docks of Menethil Harbor. Unfortunately, her abandoned warehouse may hide more than it appears... click the gallery below to view the new page and find out!%Gallery-11275%

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their supportive comments of last week's premiere. I hope that this series will live up to everyone's high expectations! I'll certainly do my best to try. This week's page is the start of the first official tale in the series, and opens with a view that is hopefully familiar but different than you remember. Considering where I want this story to go, it was necessary to expand the location a bit, but I think you'll enjoy the change. • Around Azeroth: Falling (with style)

    03.13.2007

Reader Chris sends in this informative shot showing the quickest way to get into the Wetlands -- by jumping from Loch Modan, obviously. (Yes, you can also jump down from above Ironforge, but you need some sort of slow fall ability to get far enough.) Like any entertaining jump, this one sends you a long way and is also entirely survivable, because unless you're quite unlucky, you land in a pool of water at the bottom of the falls.Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth or Outland that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! You can attach a picture file or send us a link to one -- and don't worry about formatting, we'll take care of that part. Pahonix of Arthas sent in this shot -- and if you've played for very long, then chances are you can recognize it without me telling you where it came from. Yep -- it's the Wetlands. No other zone has trees with that same odd shape. And the gigantic moon in the background -- I'm sure if you ran into Arathi (the next zone over) it wouldn't look like that. (Perhaps there's a troop of Gnomes out on the coast holding up a huge magnifying glass to make it look that way?)Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? If yours isn't posted immediately, don't fret! Shots are posted (more or less) in the order received, and yours will come up eventually.
