The Wiicast says GameStop had a little "management" convention in Las Vegas this weekend where they discussed changes coming to the company. Will D'Angelo, who runs the Wiicast, says that information was gathered through "sources" and eavesdropping by a security guard. Overheard was GameStop will be overhauling the "look, design, logos" of the brand and changing the slogan to "Power to the Players." They'll also be tracking "random games'" pre-order sales to see if the standard pre-order deposit should be $10.Allegedly, If these things are true, we'll start seeing signs in the coming weeks leading into the holiday season. Despite GameStop having a record quarter, there's no denying it has an image problem. The question becomes if the changes will actually make a difference, or if it's just dressing up the same old nasty beast in new cloths. We still want to know how much of GameStop's fortunes have to do with being a glorified pawn shop and the interest they make from all that pre-order money just sitting in an account somewhere.

Idle hands are the Devil's playthings ... or they end up making some pretty neat crafts. In this case, Will D'Angelo of TheWiicast.com, made a pretty nifty homage to Donkey Kong with this clock. The timepiece combines images easily found using a Google search -- in this case Donkey Kong and Big Mario from Super Paper Mario -- with some basic materials from a craft store. D'Angelo says you need, with approximate costs: Clock kit from Michaels craft store ($8) The vintage sign kit, which includes a shallow frame and plywood backing ($1) Tube of acrylic black paint ($1.75) Replacement hands for clock kit ($3) Clear matte spray ($5) The most expensive part of the project is probably purchasing the glossy photo-quality paper to print out the images, which D'Angelo already had around. He was thinking his next attempt would be a Centipede style clock. Now that he's done it once he has a recommendation for other people attempting the same style clock, "I would suggest to make it easier to pick up one of those cheapy wallpaper rollers for the air bubbles so that you don't touch it with your hands." A nice gamer craft project with lots of image possibilities.

Now this is interesting. Take your Nintendo Wii remote, hook it up to your mac via a free program called DarwiinRemote, and run World of Warcraft. If you're wishing for Warcraft on the Wii, you've... kind of... got it. He says you can also do this with a free Windows program (that should be Wiindows, actually), but as he shows, I still think it's more of a novelty than an actual control scheme-- he doesn't answer the question of how to actually talk to anyone, and I doubt that by moving the little remote to click all your spells that you can actually get anything done quickly, but for grinding it might be OK. But even as a novelty, it's a pretty nice, extremely easy little hack. Nice job, Wiicast guy.[ His name, we believe, is Pooch. Thanks, Pooch! ]
