  • Riding High might be the horse-riding MMO you've been waiting for

So how would you rate the horse situation in the games that you've played to date? Abysmal? Deplorable? Have you longed for the day when you could finally have your dream game that allowed you to take on the role of a horse in a third-person cover-based online experience? Riding High promises to let you do just that. Except for the third-person cover-based part. You won't be shooting anything here; you'll just be owning a virtual horse. While the official site is a little bare, the game's Facebook page has recently posted answers to a number of questions, confirming, for example, that the game will feature distinct personalities for each horse and that players will be able to engage in PvP activities. (Probably not horse fights.) If this really is all you ever wanted from online gaming, you can register for the future beta test on the official site. [Thanks to Zenaphex for the tip!]

  • A wonderfully cheap alternative to a special edition DS

Envious of the special edition It's a Wonderful World DS Lite? We were too. But now everyone who buys it, we tell ourselves, is a sucker, because Hori is releasing a Wonderful World DS Lite accessory pack for only 1,449 yen ($11.89), which actually looks better than the real thing. The accessory kit includes a clear Protect Case with Wonderful World art and what may be the English logo-- we can definitely make out "Wonderful World" in that scribble. It also includes a black extending stylus with a skull logo and "TIME LIMIT within 7 DAYS" printed in red on the body. While we quite like the appearance of the case, we have to wonder why both special-edition Wonderful World designs (this Protect Case and the special-edition DS Lite) are so monochrome, when the game is characterized by explosive, vivid color. We have yet to find a retailer selling this package, but when we do, it'll be, you know ... oh, there's a word for something that is really great. We wonder what it is ... It's got a w in it somewhere. Oh, yeah-- awesome.

Not only did people who went to the Square Enix Party get to try a bunch of new games-- and, well, a bunch of new releases of old games-- but they also got a bounty of free promotional stuff, including the set of CDs seen above. It contains songs from the soundtracks of two Final Fantasy spinoffs for the PSP, and from It's a Wonderful World, which is more in line with our interests. The CD's have been ripped, and we've got the Wonderful World sampler available for download. It's J-poppy and synthy! Is it ever synthy.1. Twister 2. Give me all your love[Thanks, Jamal!]

Famitsu has some great new shots from It's a Wonderful World that reveal a little more about the protagonist, Neku, and the gameplay of the forthcoming Square Enix RPG -- if, of course, you can either read Japanese or feel like wading through an automatic translator. If you're anything like us, though, you'll probably just stare and poke the screen while babbling about the pretty colors. We're easy to please.

It's a Wonderful World just keeps getting more wonderful, and, um, worldly. Now in addition to the graphic style, we're hyped about the gameplay! Jeux-France has posted some scans of the game in action, highlighting the touch-screen weapons system, which uses badges to assign different attacks. The attacks shown include Patrol Shot, Piercing Shot, Black Hole, Burst Shot, and Velocity Crash. All of these attacks are done with stylus gestures. The scans also state that part of the game takes place in Shibuya, making the game even more Jet Set Radio-like than we thought. We don't know how wise it is to anticipate a Square action game, but we can't help it. This looks so awesome. See for yourself after the post break.

Some new screenshots of Square Enix's bizarre action-RPG It's a Wonderful World (Subarashiki Kono Sekai) have surfaced, and they are ... interesting! We think that this game is the best use of Tetsuya Nomura's distinctive style yet. We're actually getting something of a Jet Set Radio vibe from the near-future Tokyo/kids in baggy clothes theme, and we love getting Jet Set Radio vibes. The control scheme is pretty clearly on display here, we think-- the arrows represent commands given to the character on the top screen, while the bottom screen is stylus-driven.We're excited! Much more than we ever were about Kingdom Hearts, and not just because that's a mainly-PS2 franchise. Wonderful screens are posted after the break to test your Action-RPG Excitement Potential.

A trailer for It's a Wonderful World has hit the net, allowing us to see some of the gameplay in the flesh. All it has done is strengthened our desire to get our hands on a localized copy of the game. Based on the video, which is available past the jump, would you say the same?See also: It's A Wonderful World revealed TGS 2006: It's A Wonderful World preview Concept art explosion: It's A Wonderful World It's A Wonderful World's wonderful scans It's a Wonderful World (of scans)

During the Tokyo Game Show, 1up managed to get their hands on the demo build of It's a Wonderful World, the game coming from those Kingdom Hearts guys. Their impressions of the whole affair (or, at least, the whole affair available) is somewhat positive, although they comment that the language barrier is huge. Considering that the game is incredibly complex (we imagine in a good way), being able to speak and/or read Japanese goes a long way when attempting to play the TGS build of It's a Wonderful Life. We wonder why 1up would not have a person in their starting lineup at the show to fill this much-needed role. Thinking about it, there probably should be one of us there to play the build as well, since we are so not fluent in Japanese. Of course, this would require our staff not die off from starvation, which would in turn require that Joystiq actually open the dungeon door and toss us some grub. Seriously, can we get something to eat that is not made of plastic and USB 2.0 compatible? Guys? Hello?

We had yet to report on this new game coming from the team at Square-Enix responsible for Kingdom Hearts as there was nothing visual to go on. Well, thanks to the Tokyo Game Show, we now have something to actually show you. It's a Wonderful World takes place in Japan's Shibuya district, featuring such famous locales as the 109 shopping mall and Scramble Crossing. The game stars Neku, a boy with the unique gift of reading the hearts of others (not to be confused with Ma-Ti). Upon meeting a young girl by the name of Tsuki, the two stumble upon Japan's Shibuya district and are forced to play a mysterious game. The Japanese website for the game can be found here.
