Here's a new strategy for game developers. First, take a beloved franchise and then change everything about it that made it aesthetically unique and iconic. Second, announce this new, eXtreMe version of the game, knowing that existing fans will pick it up anyway. Finally, before it's actually released and everybody learns how awful it is, put a bunch of Gamer pictures and a theme on Xbox Live Marketplace to make a quick buck off of nostalgia. Repeat. Thanks, Hudson, really. Now, please, get back to work on Fusion Frenzy 2, and -- for the love of all that is holy -- put Saturn Bomberman on Xbox Live Arcade.

New Dead Rising content is already available on Marketplace. Called keys, the content unlocks new outfits including: Miami Nights Key Casual Key Weekender Key Round Shades Key Burgundy Wine Key Grandpa Key Pink Paparazzi Key Man in Black Key Nice. This content -- as most of you probably saw in the headline -- is free. So, go get it. [Via Joystiq]

New Kameo content on Marketplace, dubbed "The Kameo Power Pack," is set to add several features to Rare's platformer. The content adds three new modes of play including Expert mode, Time Attack mode, and Rune Battle mode. All modes support two players, the first two being co-op while the third is a versus mode. One interesting tidbit: the new content will actually add 15 new achievements and worldwide leaderboards to the game (anybody know if this gives Kameo more than 1000 achievement points?). Whatever your opinions of Kameo, it's nice to see Rare supporting the game with fresh content this far into its lifespan. Expect to see it hit Marketplace "soon." [Thanks, MumbleyJoe]

Hordes of zombies prevented me from posting this earlier today, but here it is: a Dead Rising demo is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Weighing in at 1014 megs, it's the heaviest demo in recent memory, if not ever. Go get it and enjoy. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go help Ken board up the doors and windows inside Fanboy headquarters. [Thanks to the hordes of not-zombies that sent this in.] Update 1: Fixed my grievous gigabyte error. Geez.

  • Dead Rising demo here, Gears demo not coming

You know what time it is, don't you? It's time to clear out your 360 hard drive, swollen from demo after demo, turgid and bloated. We've got yet another (Friday) demo, this time Capcom's new zombie-killing title, and she's a big girl. Weighing in at 1014MB, the demo might appear large, but with a 15-minute time limit, it's really just supposed to whet your appetite for zombie gore (just a taste, you're not supposed to swallow it). That's the good news. The bad news: all that room we cleared out for yesterday's "BIG" announcement is gonna be used for the Dead Rising demo. Emergence Day was it, folks. There won't be any face-melting Gears of War demo coming out prior to the retail launch Emergence Day, so says Epic's resident party pooper, Mark Rein: "I don't see any way we could do a demo before the game comes out. We've said that before. Demos take a long time to create and polish and we can't afford to get derailled like that if we want to have the game in stores by Thanksgiving."What about that super-polished E3 multiplayer demo everyone keeps gabbing about? We'd settle for that, y'know. [Thanks for all the tips!]Read - Dead Rising demo on XBLMRead - No Gears demo pre-release

If your world view is obstructed by the rock under which you live, you may not have noticed that a demo for Saints Row has hit Marketplace. Go get it and tell us what you think. On a side note, posts might be a little wonky for a while, as technical difficulties (my Evil Office Webfilter ®) prevent more timely posts. Please bear with us as we get back up to speed. Of course, if you don't live in America, the posts might actually be more timely.Anywho, grab the Saints Row demo and tell us how Krunk it is.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Saint's Row demo carjacks Xbox Live Marketplace

The demo for Volition's inner-city sandbox GTA-simulator, Saint's Row, just up and carjacked Xbox Live Marketplace. Readers of dead tree demo dispersal mag, OXM, have been rocking this for some time now (and they won't shut up about it), but now the XBLM gods have seen fit to share with the rest of the class. The 900MB demo may convince you that Saint's Row is game enough to sate your appetite until the real deal drops late next year but, more importantly, it means Volition can get back to work on Freespace 3, right?Alright Volition, while you're doing that, we'll download your demo, we'll "join a gang," we'll even "roam the streets," but know this: we'd rather it be a gang called the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance, and we'd rather those streets be in space. But this is a start.[Thanks, Nick]

A new Dead Rising trailer on Marketplace reveals the tantalizing information that a demo is "coming soon." Wait a minute, coming soon? The game is coming out in a week! Capcom best get to it if they want people to sample this in a timely manner. Of course, given Capcom's other demo on Marketplace, their track record for timeliness is a pretty good one. Anybody still waiting on this demo to make up their minds? [Via OpenXBOX360]

Major Nelson informs the internets that there are now two Dead Rising Webisodes available on Marketplace -- US and Canada only, unfortunately. "What's a Webisode?" you ask. X360F has no idea and is unable to download it right now. So, your mission: download these Webisode thingies and inform the masses of their content. ...Don't just sit there, get to it!

Gastronaut Studios has seen fit to release a handful of shots for their upcoming Live Arcade multiplayer title, Small Arms. The shots look nice, though something is lost when the game is not in motion. Still, in comparison to other Arcade titles, Small Arms stacks up pretty well (and performed well in our recent poll). Hopefully, Gastronaut will give us a release date soon.

Are you the type who lounges around, waiting for new demos to drop on Xbox Live Marketplace and then, when they do, you scream bloody murder if they're not for the latest and greatest? Yeah? Well, have we got one for you. Major Nelson has put up a post on his complaint repository heralding the arrival of a new demo for the now seven month-old Dead or Alive 4. I know, like, can you believe this guy? Patient as always (with the help of some really good therapy we presume), Major reminded the throngs of ungrateful monkeys, "Remember guys, you all have probably had your Xbox 360 since November ... but thousands are being sold every month, so that means a lot of new people are coming on to Xbox Live and the Marketplace that may not have the game, or even heard of that game. So in that regard, this is new content for a LOT of new people." Yeah, so there. She weighs in at around 680MB so get downloadin'.

The content includes two new guns and some new camouflage. And, get this, it's free.Hopefully, the next pack will include some sweet sub woofers and an in-cockpit DVD player. Ooh, and maybe some spinning rims for the rolling Hounds.

Mike from K1lla's Xbox Domain noticed that Gamestop/EB is selling pre-paid 1600 MS Point cards for the unheard of price $24.99 (Amazon and Best Buy still list them at $19.99). Is Gamestop ripping people off on their own, or is Microsoft testing a new exchange rate?

A four minute "Demo Walkthrough" for BioWare's 360 exclusive RPG, Mass Effect ,is now available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace. The video features Project Manager Casey Hudson talking over gameplay footage from E3. It's impressive stuff, especially if you haven't seen it before. The squad-based gameplay looks a bit like Gears of War and you have to love that incinerator gun (Not too crazy about the voice acting though). BioWare's baby isn't due until Q2 2007. No telling why the marketing guys are calling the vid a "walkthrough" when it's more aptly described as a teaser trailer -- unless it's to torture us with the hint of an early playable Mass experience.Note: Bungie's Halo 3 "making of" featurette, long available on the web, is up as well.[Thanks Matt T]

Microsoft and Bioware have seen fit to treat the unwashed masses who didn't get their hands on Mass Effect at E3 this year to a video, now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace or (convenient for those of you with an allergy to Microsoft's newest console) embedded in this very post.Remember when we said "Bioware really went to town with the facial animations, something which immediately becomes obvious when you start whipping out your gun and shoving it in people's faces in your efforts to get information"? Yup, so do we, and it's apparent in this demo footage. With Bioware's impressive resumé, including Xbox hits Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire, Mass Effect is looking like a sure thing this holiday.

Do you appreciate the option to download individual cars?[Thanks Sinz]
