As we anticipated, Nintendo waited until the last possible moment to reveal the details on WiiWare's U.S. launch. In a press release which describes WiiWare as the "most democratic environment in industry history," Nintendo confirmed the six titles that launched with the download service today -- and it looks like the leaked information from the weekend was spot-on: LostWinds -- 1000 Wii Points Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King -- 1500 Wii Points Pop -- 700 Wii Points Defend Your Castle -- 500 Wii Points V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack -- 700 Wii Points TV Show King -- 1000 Wii Points So it's finally up -- hurray! Monday mornings haven't felt quite this optimistic in some time! Have any of you lot already downloaded yourself some WiiWare? %Gallery-16505% %Gallery-12067% [Via press release]

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Nintendo_reveals_WiiWare_launch_List'; The North American WiiWare launch is almost upon us, and instead of the stealth releases that we thought were coming, Nintendo's press release of WiiWare games debuting this Monday (along with their point values) was recently leaked. While we can't be sure this list is 100% valid, it looks like we can expect the following: Defend Your Castle -- 500 Wii Points Pop -- 700 Wii Points V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack -- 700 Wii Points TV Show King -- 1000 Wii Points LostWinds -- 1000 Wii Points Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King -- 1500 Wii Points Although we're disappointed by the lack of Dr. Mario, this looks like a pretty solid launch list to us. It'll be difficult to pick and choose exactly which titles we want, but there are definitely some that stand out more than others. How about you? Do you plan on downloading any of the above, or are you going to wait for impressions and reviews first? [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Now that we have a definite launch date for Nintendo's WiiWare service, we can expect the software announcements to start rolling in. Up to bat today is a WiiWare version of the flash game Defend your Castle, a little literally-titled affair where players must... defend their castles.Defending one's castle can be as easy as picking up and throwing oncoming enemy stick-figures with the cursor, but later levels unlock more devious means of dispatching would-be castle crashers. The WiiWare version will feature updated graphics, and will be available in "early 2008" for 500 Wii Points. That said, check out XGen Studios' original flash game, and let us know if you think a WiiWare version will be worth the admittedly-modest price of admission.[Via Wii Fanboy]

  • XGen Studios announces it's a certified Wii dev, working on Wii Ware game

The Alberta, Canada-based company XGen Studios has announced that it has become an authorized Wii developer, undoubtedly tired and hurt from completing the deadly trials set forth by Nintendo. We imagine that getting certified by Nintendo is kind of like surviving the three tests set before Indy (the penitent man kneels). We're sure the ends justify the means.XGen also followed up the announcement by revealing that they have a Wii Ware game already in the works. They didn't reveal much on what the game will be, other than its an "existing cult classic" from the company and will allow up to 4 players at the same time. With a history of browser-based games, we're excited for what XGen could bring to Wii Ware, as they're well-versed in creating casual titles. If you're interested in learning more about XGen, try their official website.

With the launch of Nintendo's WiiWare just around the corner, we expect developers to begin coming out of the woodwork with support for the new download service, the latest of which is Canada-based XGen Studios. Wait, who? As a company known for, of all things, web-based Flash games, XGen has not specified what its initial WiiWare project will be, simply stating that it will release the game alongside the service's launch in early 2008.On closer inspection, the announcement actually makes a modicum of sense for XGen, which has created browser games for a variety of web portals, including EA's Pogo Network and MTV. The studio's catalog of web games already included labels for those titles it feels are "Wii Compatible," paving the way for game development for the system itself. XGen notes that its first WiiWare title will be based on one of the studio's multiplayer titles, modified to use the Wii remote. But with titles like Fishy, Chicken Jockey, and Balloon Duel, how can you pick just one?
