OQO ultrapersonal computer gets real on October 14th
Speaking of the Neonode N1 and vaporousness, the current heavyweight champion of vaporware, OQO's oft-delayed Model 01 ultrapersonal computer (that handheld with the slide-out QWERTY keyboard that runs on a full version of Windows XP and has a 20GB hard drive, 1GHz processor, and built-in Bluetooth and WiFi), is all set to become a reality when it finally becomes available on October 14th. Our lustful hearts can't wait.

This is probably my most coveted gadget as of right now. All I'm worrying about is the price. Where in the world am I going to get the money? ~_~

Don't get me wrong, I have been waiting for an OQO like device for over 24 months now. Had OQO 01 aka http://www.oqo.com/hardware/specs/ been out say Jan 2004, I'd had paid whatever, today they are gonna need to price it at about 1000 USD or lower. At that price I'd justify it as a stepping stone to a more usable machine. Here is why:
-> The keyboard needs some work, bet it is inferior to my workhorse psion 5 (thats a 6 year old keyboard palmtop)
-> Users will want 802 11g not B
-> 20GB hard drive is no longer large enough when an iPod has 40Gb today
-> Battery life needs to be sufficient to be used for a working day between charges, maybe I can live with the promised 3 hours, maybe now
-> Could they have considered a hybrid design whereby it could operate in a reduced mode PDA mode from an internal Flash memory, and as a full blown computer from Hard drive
-> 256MB memory is too small for 2004
-> screen size, unit size and weight - fantastic
So price your product right OQO and you have a chance, I mean the Sony VGN-U70 is already shipping, and its pretty similar.

Is there any way we can route some of the regular RAM over to video so we can play Everquest on this bad boy?
