Sony's new HS75, HS75P, HS95, and HS95P X-black monitors
Looks like Sony's updated their X-brite (aka X-black)
equipped
HS lineup of LCD monitors with new stylings a little more
reminiscent of their recently released VAIO V-series PCs; their new SDM-HS75, SDM-HS75P, and
SDM-HS95P monitors are, unfortunately, near-standard aspect ratio (5:4) with mere SXGA (1280x1024) resolutions on both
their respective 17 and 19-inch sizes. The 17 Premium model (with the P at the end) has a 600:1 contrast ratios
compared to its 500:1 standard counterpart, and the 19-inch model 550:1 contrast ratio; all models come with DVI and
analog inputs. We're still not huge on the fixed height/angle part though, but with a screen that pretty, we're gonna
try and hold our tongues.

1280x1024 is actually 5:4, guys. standard 4:3 (a la 640x480, 1024x768) would be 1280x960.
its nice to see form over function...not how are you suppose to adjust these monitors eecck
I noticed thes the other day on the website. I bought a HS74P cheap last week. More than happy with the performance and the design is far nicer than these. Looks like Sony are following a familar trend of replacing beautiful products with dog ugly ones. Let's hope apple doesn't follow suit!
Sorry, but the lack of adjustment is an absolute dealbreaker for anyone who will actually use the thing. For the dilettantes who are content to let this thing sit on a desk and gather dust, go nuts.

Looks like a copy of shuttle's new monitors, but hey, I'm just saying.

The shuttle's look nicer, however.
So are these those new LCD screens with a sheet of highly-reflective plastic on top of them that render the entire monitor basically useless for anything other than looking at and saying "oooooh, shiny!" ??
The rest of the design of this thing suggests they are, as apparently are the ones linked in the earlier story.
Sony does also sell a line of serious screens, though. The StylePro line (such as the SDM-S204) basically equals top CRT's in color reproduction, gamut, and contrast in all of the professional tests I've seen, they don't look all frilly and stupid or have glare-inducing reflective coatings on top of them, and they don't cost that much either.
Don't get distracted by brightly colored lights... buy substance over style.
No swivel, No rotation, 5 degrees of tilt, I guess the all style no substance/crippled product minidisc designers got a new job.
I bought an SDM-HS74P last week, and love it. It's my first LCD monitor. I agree with Rick James, the newer design just doesn't look as nice. Yes, this model has the built-in screen protector. For me that was a plus. It's wide bezel is not suited for dual monitor applications, but when this bad boy is turned off, it almost looks like a plasma display. Chicks dig it! ;-)
Sony's 19 in. display, the SDM-HS95P, has a 550:1 contrast ratio, not 1000:1. Check out the specs on all the new displays at http://displaysbysony.com/display/home.jsp.
The 12 ms response time is appealing for gaming.
relax guys, dont bombard on something youve never tested before. As a technician for a retail store, I happen to see alot of monitors that got out to service and monitors being brought in along with the computer for in store repairs. This monitor by far is the clearest most vibrant monitor and ghosting is not an issue with its 12ns response time. I purchased an LG 19 inch monitor, and returned it because i was not happy with it. I looked at the Sony 19inch 95 monitor, it caught my eye, however I was skeptical with the fixed base, and said ahhhh ehhhh maybeeee, so I gave it a shot. Im using it right now and play half life and doom and all other games out on the market and I come to say its a pleasure to have this on top of my computer desk. As long as you have an adjustable reclining chair you can adjust yourself for the best viewing area for this monitor at a very relaxing state.
I've been waiting for Sony HS95P. I'm very disappointed about the style. I have ever seen the most UGLY style of LCD screen before!!! I need to wait the next model of Sony 19". I really want to know who design this model??????
There's a review of the SDM-HS95P here:

I just bought this monitor for $650CA (about $525US) so here are some first-hand thoughts on issues raised here.
1) Looks/adjustability: The monitor does have an 'odd' base, but I actually like it and the tilt adjustment works great and is about 20 degrees (more than enough)not 5. Yeah you can't rotate it or adjust the height, but that is not a problem for me. You can use VESA mounts on it if you really need to.
2) The shiny coating had me wondering as well, but once it is turned on and you are sitting in front of it...no problems even with overhead lighting.
3) Contrast ratio is listed as 1000:1 on UK models, and 550:1 on NA models...go figure.
4) Set the picture mode to 'auto' and the thing looks just beautiful. The other picture mode presets (movie/game/pc) were definitely 'off' for my eyes, and the default is 'movie' which I found to be the worst offender. I was actually considering taking it back, until I set it on auto and it came to life, even for movies.
5) I currently have a BFG FX5500 card, which only has s-video and analog outputs, so I can only assume the monitor will be even better with digital once I move to a new comp./card
6) 12ms...no ghosts in this machine!
7) Support CD sucks...could not unzip the drivers (continually caused runtime error) and the link for the manual sends you to some 3rd party e-manual site that does not even have the manual on it. Go to sony e-support page and get the real goods...manual and drivers all work fine from the Sony site.
