Firefly @ CTIA - Firefly emergency cellphone
The peeps at Firefly were gracious enough to let us tool around a little while with their emergency cellphone, and believe it or not, we actually started to forget it was a kids' device. In all reality, it might just as easily make for a great backup emergency phone to give your sweetie, but they didn't forget who it was really intended for: the Firefly felt very sturdy in that plasticy, kids' stuff kinda way.

You can always use an old cellphone without service if you want to rock a phone for emergencies. Even though you can't recieve or make regular calls, dialing out to the operator or 911 always works.
What do you tell the cops when you accidently sit on it and five firetrucks show up?
Some emergencies don't require emergency services. What they do require however, is a call to Mom or Dad. Or more likely a call FROM Mom or Dad, so using an old cellphone without service will not detract from the target market of this product which is young kids.
My daughter doesn't need to be able call anyone but me or her Mom, (and shouldn't be either). It would be handy to give her one of these, especially when going to an amusement park, large shopping mall etc. Sometimes kids get lost, and this would save the day.
