Wireless carriers pissed about the high cost of DRM

Dude, you know how we love to bitch about DRM here at Engadget, but guess who else is complaining about DRM now? The wireless carriers who make the GSM Association trade group, that's who. Except they're not whining about the same stuff we whine about. Nah, the deal is that they're not happy about the licensing fees the Open Mobile Alliance wants to charge carriers to use their "open" standard for protecting wireless downloads. The carriers say that charging a buck per handset and demanding a small percentage of every transaction (it'd be 1 percent for a $1 song download) is not only "unreasonable and excessive" but also "unworkable in the market." Not that we ever expect these guys to wake up to the irony of their actions, but if they're unhappy about DRM adding extra expense and complication to their lives then how do they expect the rest of us to feel about it?
