That playstation looks pretty big.

good job fellas, keep up the good work!

black dudes protect the ps3 while white males protect the xbox...figures..

Tomorrow will showcase the one that I want to see.
Can't wait.
Cullen @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
playstation looks fucking huge. christ.
michaelg @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Hmm... consoles are around even when it comes to raw power (give or take, sony may have more) but I think the x360 is far more appealing with its capabilities to do far more than the PS3 like connect to an iPod or PSP or stream from your computer and play movies and so much more. As if that's not great enough, the x360 will have Final Fantasy 11 and all upcoming FF games as well as halo 3 and many other top Japanese developers who have realized where it's better to develop. Microsoft has realized that games are more important than guts and have added games and other nice capabilities. The PoS3 fagg0ts can stfu now. And no, just because an ugly controller from Sony comes out, doesn't mean its good, ok? It's ugly and I've used PC gamepads like that 8 years ago including one from Microsoft and it was the worst thing ever. Seriously...
Zell @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I'm kinda liking the design. Surprised it's not smaller though. The guy right next to it has this serious, "Yeah, bitches!" expression.
kernel_dan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
That's a really great picture. The PS3 doesn't look big to me, I think the curves mess up your perception of size.
Monmin @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
huh? that pic really makes the ps3 look like junk.
MS never gave an answer as to Sonys claim that the PS3 has double the terraflops. Whatever the hell that means.
I do believe it comes down to this: The PS3 is the more powerful system. The Xbox 360 will have a superior software platform.
Tarek @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
its not THAT big, look at the way its positioned, the people in the picture are clearly a few feet behind the ps3, making it appear as if its large
Sean @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
How can the PS3 *not* have a UMD slot? That makes no sense whatsoever.
Sonchi @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
From some of the pictures I've seen in different perspectives, it looks like a slightly sleeker version of an Atari 2600.
jon @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
it's really not that big, i went to the conference and kutaragi held it up, it wasn't as huge as that pic makes it.
solowCX @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
According to IGN the PS3 is actually bigger than the Xbox 360. Imagine that...
http://gear.ign.com/articles/614/614837p1.html
Jeremy @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I don't like the fact that it's curved. Now I can't stack stuff on top of it.

http://news.yahoo.com/photo/050517/482/ksd10105170114&g=events/tc/051705elecentexpo
should be a link to him holding it up, and yea gear.ign.com says its 3 inches longer and 1 inch wider. yes it is bigger than the xbox 360.
deesnuts @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
It still looks like a george forman grill!!! But I am sure the games will be killer.
Sean @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
#14: that picture makes me think of the VCR I owned in 1984. It's just missing the little wired remote that slid out from the side.
T2 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Few have known about the alliance between Sony and Kenmore. The PS3 is a beautiful kitchen appliance.
jay @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Yikes! that's big. I'd probably wait for the PSThree, the nimi version of the Playstation 3 (same with PSOne and PSTwo) which comes out near the end of it's lifecycle.
amiga_tone @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I have to ask this question though, is the XBox 360 a games console or just another rebadged PC?
When upright the PS3 looks like a fridge and the XBox 360 just like a dell optiplex!
Patrick @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Xbox:Approx. 12in wide x 4in high
PS3:About 13.5" x 3.25"
Xbox 360:About 10.25" x 2.5"
thats just funny it's 1.5 inches longer and .75inches shorter then orginal xbox. It's .75 inches taller than 360 and 3.25 inches longer.
So now Playstation is bigger and a little more powerful and xbox is smaller and more "game centric" supposedly (we'll see).
The tables have turned people. Happy gaming
Teller @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Wow, it's a fridge and a fax machine. What will they think of next?

Par @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Don't get me started about that controller boomerang. Phew, it blows. Really, really ugly.
MooMix @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Yeah the controller sucks. If you try to toss it to one of your friends it'll turn around and fly right back.
Awesom-o @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
>>>"I have to ask this question though, is the XBox 360 a games console or just another rebadged PC?"<<<
What does it matter? The current Xbox "rebadged PC" blows the shit out of the PS2 "game console".
Apparently, Microsoft, or M$, as I'm sure you love to call them, was on to something.
If PC's are better gaming devices than "game consoles" I'll take a rebadged PC every time.
MooMix @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
Here is a comparison of the specs for both systems: http://gear.ign.com/articles/614/614837p1.html
Carlo @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
There was so much made of tonight's clash of titans at E3. And I have to say, Sony did not trounce Microsoft as many predicted. I agree with whoever said that the PS3 looks like a combination refrigerator and fax machine. The PS3 specs may have slightly more muscle than the 360, but the 360's is plenty fast and their games look awesome--Quake 4, Ghost Recon 3, etc. Also, the design intangibles are that the PS3 looks very cold and the 360 design is a warmer and friendlier-looking, but still manages to look high tech. I don't know guys and gals... I think Microsoft wins this one.
MooMix @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
If the outcome is decided based on size/looks then the Revolution will probably be the winner don't you think?
It all comes down to the games and support from developers. I don't see the XBox coming out on top unless it can win over more people in Japan or make up for it with better sales everywhere else.
I don't see how you can say XBox games look better. We'll have to wait and see.
There is really no point in arguing about all of this. It's way too soon to say for sure what is going to happen.
Leon D. @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
To be honest I'm completely blown away by the coolness of the PS3, and the controller looks very art deco sci fi, like something that belongs at the Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow movie. I'll definetely end up buying all three new consoles: PS3, XBox360 and Revo, but of all three I look forward to the PS3 the most.
noname989 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
What I want to know is...how much? How much money are these next gen consoles gonna cost? These consoles out class high end Falcon Northwest PCs that run into the $4000 range. How in the world are MS/Sony going to be able to price these at $300 and still make a profit?
As far as the Xbox/PS3 design well I really could care less. I dont understand why people think consoles should be sexy. I worry more about "Will I get DREs only a year after purchase" or "Will I have to replace it every two damn years!"
Babs @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
PS3. It's a bitchin' fridge!
Sean @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
All I know is if that Revolution video is real, then Nintendo has won back my heart.
Chris @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
well the ps3 may have more power, but the xbox 360 is more than sufficient. Its like having a mcclaren in bumper to bumper traffic.
Tally @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I expected the PS3 to look incredible. Well, it looks incredibly ordinary. Looks like 70s VCR. A can opener. A coffee maker. Jesus, what a disappointment. And the controller is worse. The 360 feels better to the eye when you look at it.
It's a wash. I say the two companies split audience evenly by the end of next year with the final coming down to quality of games.
MooMix @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I won't be surprised if they sell in the 300-400 range like you said.
What makes you think they plan on making profit on the actual system? They are going to take a hit on each console sold for sure, but the real money is in game sales.
MooMix @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
That video was created by a fan, it's not the real thing.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/15/news_6124668.html
The whole idea of the Revolution having a virtual reality head set was speculation/rumor by somebody in the biz, based on the bits of information Nintendo has released thus far or something along those lines anyway.
Boomhauer @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
The PS3 controller, while looking cool, certainly does not look that functional. However, I really doubt that Sony would come up with a controller design which is not comfortable/easy to use so we'll just have to wait to play it.
Specs wise, I think its close enough that games won't look much better on one system than another. The PS3 has a lot of very interesting feature though I wonder how many will actually be used by the average consumer.
The PS3 design looks aight, as does the 360. I want to see each in person though before passing judgement.
Can anyone tell me why Sony gave both the PS2 and PS3 the switch on the back and the button on the front? Why not just have a button on front? This has always baffled me.
I predict the winner in this race will be determined solely by games, specifically the number of blockbuster titles (GTA, Halo, etc) that each console can claim.
james @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
i think i could sh*t somethin better looking than that controller
amiga_tone @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
>>>"I have to ask this question though, is the XBox 360 a games console or just another rebadged PC?">>
If you can get the same performance out of a PC then why buy an XBox?
Adam @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM

ahh, typical high school geek remark.. thats all good, however, youre BADLY mistaken about 1 thing... SONY OWNS ALL RIGHT TO THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES. just because microsuck ganked ff's designer, xbox weenies are not getting final fantasy.. sorry. i will agree though, the controller does look like it will suck. and killzone > halo, thank you :)
skibur @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
ok, that ps3 thingy is a joke... what the hell were they thinking!? oh and to you... person before me, killzone has got nothing on halo or halo 2, sorry. anyway, the ps3 is the gayest shape i have ever seen. and XBOX owns forever! haha and playstation will never release a new game that will beat halo and halo 2 in popularity and online playability-ness! Halo 2 rules.
the end
tweaq @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
apparently square enix smacked their dicks in sony's face. lol. but it looks like all the press releases are just blowing smoke. why don't they just tell what it does and how fast and all that. "This WILL revolutionize gaming FOREVER. This is THE best machine, and we pwn everyone, and your grandmother can play online." LOL its getting stupid. But xbox does have more stuff lined up, like all the online stuff. but that just means we're gonna have to pay more. i liked the good ol days. buy the game, play the game. thats it, no more extra moneyu involved.
wizard @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
#41 - Agreed... that moron before you is in some kind of denial.

As for the PS3: I like the console, when it's standing. Horizontal it looks ugly and big... and don't even get me started on the controller. I thought the Xbox's original controller was bad, but this is just ridiculous.
ssjowowo @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
#40 ummm..i think you are mistaken..square enix gave its full support to the xbox 360 and they will be bringing ff to the xbox!! so eat your words http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/16/news_6124746.html
and also, square-enix's president gave its full support for revo and was fascinated by the prospects of nintendo's online plans. so what's sony left with is GTA and GT (same old games with better graphics)
SiN ViCiOuS @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I was really thinking of going with PS3 if it so much more under the hood.. I was hoping for more innovation on the PS3... But after watching the x360 support, umm Im sticking with MS. I think they learned alot in the past 3 years and as agaming community we need to be bale to respect a company for making a turn around when they listen tot heir consumers.
#1- BC ( it must have been difficult, but you made it happen.
#2 - FF franchise
#3 - Quake
#4 - HD and Media Center compatible
#5 - Free online services out of the box
This press conference sealed the tomb for PS3 not becuase of the hardware but because it will get Japan support and it will launch 1 year before PS3 and I dont think anyone will wait 1 year to play FF online just to get a small improvment visually, plus Halo 3 will never come on PS3 so why bother to wait.
Rick Person @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
I waited for Xbox to come out after PS2, after looking at the Killzone 2 trailer I have a feeling I'll be waiting for the PS3. Anyway you look at it Sony will trump the Xbox, just for the simple fact that its hardware will be 7 months later or a little less than 20% of the time of a typical console's life. What I'm really curious to know is the cost of both systems, I have a feeling that Sony will be more.
bil @ Dec 19th 2005 12:14AM
hey, #45. you must be seeing some illusion...
#1- BC (PS3. XBOX seems like start thinking about it.)
#2 - FF franchise (PS3. XBOX wouldn't have new one.)
#3 - Quake (XBOX.)
#4 - HD and as Media Center (PS3 and XBOX. XBOX can't have 1024p and HD movies.)
#5 - Free online services out of the box (XBOX. PS3 is likely to have.)
Apparently you are comparing thing only on the stage
where MS claims and believing more than MS is saying.
XBox360 is so far not capable of doing things that you
all hope. Too much dreaming on XBOX360 looks helpless.
They said about connecting to USB external strage as
"iPod/PSP connectivity", which I think were very very
exaggerated claim. For now MS needs to respond with
more credible demonstraions, not like cheaty movies
they showed at E3.
Get a little more reality, dude.
