This week's wireless standard: SEEMesh

mesh networking

So we know the IEEE was accepting proposals from all 'round on a new wireless mesh networking standard this week, but it looks like the one garnering a lot of attention is SEEMesh (Simple, Efficient and Extensible Mesh, har), backed by the likes of Intel, Nokia, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, and TI. Among the other 15 proposals dropped, SEEMesh will have its chance to become what will eventually be known as 802.11s, probably some time around 2011—if the IEEE gets around to it. What are mesh networks you ask? Well, just think of wireless mesh as to wireless access points as routers are to the internet. Or look right.
