UC Irvine creates 200 megapixel display

Not happy with enrollment figures, UC Irvine tries to attract students with a 200-megapixel display wall. Fifty LCD panels, in a 10 x 5 configuration were combined to form a single display measuring 23-feet by 9-feet.

High-def resolution is about 2.1 megapixels, so in theory, the Highly Interactive Parallelized Display Wall (HIPerWall) is about 100 times better than today's consumer sets. The intent of the display is for viewing massive data sets. We're kidding on the enrollment bit, but you have to wonder how long will it be before the HIPerWall is used for UCI's "Movie Night".
