What we're watching and why:

CBS kicks off its NFL pre-season coverage with the Minnesota Vikings taking on the New York Jets at 8 p.m. in HDTV. CBS emphasizes that it's showing it and another pre-season game on Aug. 27 in 1080i with 5.1 channel digital surround sound. Also tonight at 9:30 is boxing on HDNet. "Greatest Fights II" features WBC International Junior Welterweight Champion Paul Malignaggi and undefeated Junior Middleweight Sechew Powell.
