Talk about portability; having an HD-capable display in a notebook computer sure beats lugging around a 175-pound CRT. Trust me, I've had to move the darn thing three times in the past four years! So what if you added an HD-DVD drive for some killer high-def movies on that notebook display? That's what Toshiba wants to know and why they announced an HD-DVD drive in a notebook PC.

The new optical drive is under 13 millimeters thick and will read and write to standard DVD or CD media as well. Toshiba is ensuring a high-def display on the laptop that offers the HD-DVD drive. After all, what's the point of the a high-def disk that you have to watch on a crappy screen? You gotta wonder what this will do for the portable HD-DVD market that doesn't exist yet.
