$25 rCard video business card
Not as much a business card as a
personal media player, the rCard video business card is sure to be all
the rage for high power business people who are totally over swapping paper business cards during their
weekend yacht meet-ups—if it actually exists. The press release is pretty much straight hype, including claiming the
device — which sports a USB port — is about as thick as a credit card. (We're thinking no.) In fact we did a completely
un-scientific test to conclude that the device is around 0.2-inches thick. But still, not too shabby for a 2 x 3.5-inch
PMP with up to 1GB of storage, a rechargeable battery that supposedly lasts up to four hours, and what looks to be a
1.5-inch or so screen (they claim around 2.7-inch, but we're not buying). Yeah, so the details are murky, and we have a
sneaking suspicion that the 1GB version doesn't go for 25 smackers, but the self promoter within us would like to buy
50. Be sure to check the promo video, it's always great to watch an item be compared to the printing press and the
Internet.

The site says that it is the thickness of "two quarters", not a credit card. Also, the minimum order os 250,000 units. I doubt they will ever sell an order, and judging by the site, etc., the whole "CEO IQ" company is probably run by one or two people. Prob just a publicity stunt. I don't know of any company who would spend $6.25 million for the minimum order of those business cards. Pfftt...
Did the specs mention what types of media it can play? It would sure be nice if they had support for video and audio also (like Mp3,OGG,etc)
can you buy just one or do u need to purchase a truck load for your company?
Cool way of advertising!
Wow, that demo was simultaneously pretentious and laughably amateurish. Hoo boy, I sure do hope the device can live up to that...
You know what this smells like? A potentinal law suit on misrepresenting a product and adverstising falsely. Granted perhaps the company is doing some bait & switch tactics, but in my book that's a) just plain wrong and b) liable to get a lot of people hating your company for a long time.
If this thing is real and can be bought at double or even triple the listed price the use as a mp3 player/portable video player would be huge. I do agree that the presentation was annoying to the point of making me want to chop my computer with an axe but the products cool factor will sell alot of units. Gimmee, Gimmee.
Called them up; I really could use such a device for its intended purpose. The person who answered the phone knew nothing about it -- promised someone would call me back. I think it's complete vaporware.
I don't disagree that this may be vapor right now, but I'm sure you can see how some high end applications could benefit from this. Even if you look at a place like Branders.com, people can and do spend anything on promotional materials. So, if a high end car dealer sends one of these to their previous buyers, changes are a $25 promotional item can lead to a huge payout. If you wanted to use it for something other than what it is intended, though, I could see it being a disappointment.
I spoke with a rep. They told me that this little baby could play everything from flash presentations, to picture slideshows, all sorts of movie files and what-not. Like a little laptop. Apparently though it is only initially available for companies wanting to order mass amounts. Can't wait for the consumer version.
at least they were original and called it rCard and not iCard..
