LG's U880 thin UMTS 3G phone
Just a quick reminder that LG's trying to compete in the thin phones biz: their U880 is 0.7-inches thick, plays back
MP3s (what doesn't?), has 75MB of flash memory, and rocks the UMTS. LG's so stoked about this phone they hired a model
with three arms to show it off, but we're still not convinced.

My Nokia 3510i doesn't play MP3s
I need a new phone - I'll take that one (ha if only I had the money)
Pretty slick phone, but there's far too much choice out their now.

The black looks pretty slick to me. The one thing that bugs me about a lot of clamshell phones is that there has been very poor design around the hinge overall. The hinge always ends up being a bug ugly round wart. IMO, this is the biggest design flaw in the RAZR. I really like the hinge in this one, it is very streamlined when open.

doesnt that look like a nano screenshot to you? with the different angles of the phone

::sigh:: I don't care that much about having a full-featured phone, but I would love better-looking phones. that pink one staring at me is totally killing me.

Same here. Even low-end stuff in Asia looks really good (though "low-end" there is relative). Those same manufacturers come to the US and all their stuff looks like cheap junk. Why not just release the same phones but with different electronics, if necessary? Same colors and everything. Why do they have to make new designs to appeal to "American" tastes, which to them obviously means "make stuff that looks like ass"? Do they think the fact that American manufacturers just have crap designers means that those are the kinds of designs we actually *want*?

This is just a guess but I would have to say that this phone is aimed at Vodafone KK (Japan)
The design is heavily influenced by Japanese handset design anyway.
Any word on if this will have GSM on it aswell?? Cingular is not using the same band for UMTS as Voda KK or Europe so if this one does not sport GSM it ain't gonna work 'round these parts
bluetide @ Dec 19th 2005 12:55AM
im guessing it will work on uk gsm bands as the three network is rumoured to have baught all of them up

I have just got this phone on three uk and the LG software actually seeems worse than it was on my old LG.
I can no longer turn off the camera sound. So stealth pics are out of the question. (even in silent mode)
The font on the home screen has a nasty border around it. It gives you the option to use comic sans but this is almost unreadable.
The wallpaper now has to be sized to cover the whole screen and goes behind the option icons. This can make things unclear.
I never liked iconic menus and prefer a list for options ... this option has also gone
Call quality seems good. This is the main thing I guess
I hate the way that Three fill the phone menus up with shit ... I'm really not interested in their content.
