Funny, we've always only had problems with our palms getting too sweaty when using our peripherals, but the Heated
Mouse heats up to 102° Fahrenheit. Apparently it's intended "for those with poor circulation in your finger tips" ...
is that, like, a veiled fat jab?
Hey, johnny engadget, check out this link from the american heart association about raynaud's syndrome: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4687. This is a condition in which the smallest arteries that bring blood to the fingers or toes constrict (go into spasm) when exposed to cold or from an emotional upset.
Fat indeed!
Seriously, this product will have some impact on Raynaud's patients. I thought I would throw it out there so you wouldn't feel so bad about your fat little fingers. Yup, break out that dialing wand and (281) 330-8004, hit me up on the low. ga.
i think it's a good product. i have skinny finger tips that go ice cold sometimes. this is a nice product if i didn't have air conditioning. or when i forget to use air conditioning, which happens more than occasionally.
I'm actually going to comment this because it concerns me.
I have a very weak blood circulation because I'm too close to being underweight.
I think this is an awesome idea I never had. Often when I spend hours at a time on the computer it can happen that my "mouse-hand" goes almost completely numb, even if the room is at a normal temperature my hand feels like a cold brick.
Woah, blue_six, you rock my socks. I have such bad circulation but I get plenty of exercise. I never realised til you pointed it out that this could be to do with my underweightedness. Yet another reason for me to eat la horse.
Good to get the ol' circulation going after that ol' trick known as "the stranger".
Just hope the heat doesn't caramelize certain liquids making it harder to clean.
That was dirty...in all seriousness, temperature control on devices we come in contact with the most is the next level in ergonomics. Fat, skinny, diabetic, whatever, anything available that can ease pain without the use of drugs is OK in my book.
Body Weight has nothing to do with circulation, good or poor, even if the fat kid in grade school often left a warm chair behind. Why not say you need a smoke if you need one of these, because, smokers can have cold hands too.
I am keeping the house cool saving on utilities this winter, and I suppose the other possibility would be those dickensian gloves without the fingertips (if you are using mighty mouse rather than a mouse with real buttons)
I have wanted one of these for YEARS and just now thought I might do a search...lo and behold. I used to have to sit, hot water bottle on lap (inside sleeping bag), swapping a warmed fingerless glove for a cold one, or warm my hands up on the light bulb of my desk lamp while I toiled for hours late at night on various assignments. It is a serious problem, and I am (gasp!) average in height/weight etc. Was probably something to do with circadian rhythms and hours of inactivity rather than poor circulation.
this is something i want. i have been noticing my hands getting colder and colder. espesially the mouse hand and it gets to the point where its hard to move the fingers to click and type and i end up having to give up and try to warm them up anyway i can. im not overwheight or anything. its a serious problem and i have not been getting out lately or getting any exerxise at all. ive actually been very very lazy and hardly ever leave the house so im guessing this is causing the bad circulation. the mouse it self is cold all the time in normal room temp. and does not warm up when i use it eather. i really need help on how to fix my circulation problems cuz its not just the hands, but starting to get to my knees and down. im 19 and dont have a job as of now but plan to get it oneday. my last job did require alot of physical hands on work so i dont know if that has anything to do with it. and when its like cold as in winter cold and i put my hands on the heater i cant feel if its burning my hands because theyre so cold.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Maybe if I lived in the Artic, but I'd definitely be willing to buy a functional mouse w/ A/C.

i hope that's not your personal number you're giving out -.-

So don't make fun of this thing, I want one.

I actually have raynaud's syndrome, and this looks neat. But it's more of a problem when typing (fingers waving around in the cool air).
For me it's just an excuse to make my working environment cosy :)
Well, today is your lucky "everything is possible in this, our madly consumerist society" day, Chris Gunton. Here's your heated keyboard!
I just wear gloves at the computer
I want one! And as it's been said already, skinny people like myself can have bad circulation, I don't know why the author made the fat comment...

I was going to make a comment about raynaud's syndrome since my little brother has it, but someone beat me to it. He's 6'6" and 175 lbs.
It could also be handy for use in server rooms, since they're usually kept at arctic temperatures.

hmm. very interesting. I was just going to cover a mouse in some fleece to help keep the mouse hand warm. I didn't expect to see a product like this.
this is awesome ..i tihnk i have poor circulation in my hands cause my hand is always cold when i use my mouse...and no i'm not fat lol
I like the idea. Even better would be a mouse pumping hot air out of my 12'' Powerbook...

I did purchase this product. It works very well. I love it!
