Chrome Duma, Shuttle laptop bags boost strength with Kevlar
We don't really think these new Kevlar-reinforced bags from
Chrome will stop a bullet from turning your lappie into a lap pie, as has been reported elsewhere on the internets, but
that doesn't mean we don't think they're pretty slick. The Duma and Shuttle run from $110 to $120, and come in sizes
that can hold everything from a 12-inch sub-notebook to a 17-inch widescreen. Models are also available in carbon fiber
and ballistic nylon, in case you really have no interest in using your laptop bag for target practice.

Am I the only person who cringes when somebody calls a "laptop" a lappie or lappy?
I have a Chrome bag (a Mini Metro) for my 12-inch PowerBook, and it is undeniably the best laptop bag. Yes, WaterField bags have more pockets and cable ducts, but Chrome bags are *indestructible*. Plus, with the cell phone holster, I always get compliments on the bag. Chrome bags rock.
I bought a messenger bag from Chrome a few years back to carry my laptop, books, and other misc. goodies to class and back. I still use the bag everyday and still love it as much as the day I got it. Its practically indestructible, it keeps heavy rain out, and its incredibly ergonomic. I have met people with laptop bags from chrome and have found them to be equally pleased with the quality of their bags. I don't know these bags can stop bullets, but they are otherwise could amazing.
I'll jump on the Chrome fanboy bandwagon here. I've been commuting from Portland to San Jose every week for 2.5 years and have used my Chrome messenger bag the entire time. I carry my 17" laptop, a change of clothes and misc garbage. It's the best, most comfortable bag I've ever owned.
andy: no, youre not.
As much as I want more every day items to use Carbon Fiber, these bags that feature carbon fiber look really ugly, despite their wonderful functionality and comfort.
I want more things besides my bike to be made out of carbon fiber =(
I think we can all agree that only Strongbad can use the term "Lappy".
Chalk up another satisfied Chrome customer here. I bought a messenger bag from them to use for traveling about a year ago and it's withstood monsoon rains of Hong Kong, the pickpockets of Paris and the buses of Mexico and still looks almost like the day I bought it.
I'm interested in checking out these bags. Since I come from an urban cycling culture, I've always been into Timbuk2 bags, though I think they're quality and offerings have suffered somewhat since they outsourced their work to China.
Vectorbug: don't you think carbon bikes are soulless and sacrifice ride for negligible weight savings (unless you're doing TTs, or course)?
It's just sailcloth. Not really that special.
If you are in the bay area... be sure to check out the Chrome Factory outlet ... located around Folsom and 7th.
Say it ain't so!
Best messenger bag is this recent Timbuk2 Pro series I have (says, "MADE IN USA." behind the size tag)-- and it's made of this insane indestructible sail cloth.
My dad has the older ribbed (Sputnik?) Chrome-- and I have to say, I'm sorta envious!
GO SF bag designers!!!

unfortunately kevlar and carbonb fiber aren't options, but anything else actualy funtional is.
