Samsung's 7-inch flexible display: not quite the "world's largest"

Samsung 7-inch flexible display

Samsung has given a bump to their last, best-effort in flexible displays showing off what they call the "world's largest transmissive TFT LCD" flaunting 7-inches of 640x480 (VGA) resolution. Never mind that LG.Philips and E Ink already announced a flexible 10.1-inch 800x600 (SVGA) TFT LCD they built back in October. But unlike their steel foil-based "paper-white" display ideal for electronic paper, Samsung's seven-inch panel uses a transparent plastic substrate ideal for portable digital TVs, laptops, or cellphones. In either case, this flexible design allows for more rugged displays to be wrapped lovingly around mobile devices we tend to drop, sit on, or potentially (gasp) wear.
