The Times asks: "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?"

The New York Times is asking "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?" and now, we are asking "Does a HD DVR boost your high-def viewing hours or not?" May seem like a silly question 'cause everyone knows a DVR allows you to watch what you want, when you want. Therefore, most people watch less TV because there isn't as much surfing happening. But does a HD DVR really increase the amount of high-def content you watch? Probably not, as channel surfing is a lost art of the nineties, when cable was everywhere and no one cared about resolution. There wasn't a programing guide or DVRs, so people just surfed and life was good. But TIVO, Replay TV too, changed that practice and now surfing is just something you will tell you offspring about. We are assuming that your DVR is filled with both high-def and non-HD content and that you don't have time to surf anymore. We know for a fact that you don't record Tour-de-Gorge and shows like that must thrive on people just tuning in out of curiosity. So if surfing is gone, how much non-HD content do you just happen upon anymore?

So we ask once again, does your HD DVD boost your high-def viewing hours or not?
