LCD panels selling at record pace in Taiwan
That's better than LCD panels themselves breaking, of course. Two of the five major LCD panel manufacturers in Taiwan are reporting record sales; AUO and CMO are the record breakers as each are selling over 60% more LCD panels than the prior year. In fact, since October, Taiwan has sold more LCD panels than their neighbor, South Korea. Rounding out the other major Taiwanese LCD panel manufacturers are CPT, Quanta Display and HannsGroup.
Ironically, until we covered the HANNSpree press event at CES last week, I didn't realize that they made their own panels. While you may not recognize some of these LCD panel producers, it's a safe bet that a good number of LCDs you see on retail shelves have a "Made in Taiwan" sticker inside. The bigger names tend to produce their own, but there's a large number of low- to medium-end sets built with these panels.
