HDMI does support 1080p, I knew it!

I have read that the current HDMI spec doesn't support 1080p. This has always puzzled me, since DVI seems to work fine for 23" displays that have higher resolutions than 1080p and HDMI and DVI share the same signaling technology. It appears that I was correct and that the limitation is in the equipment, not the specification. For whatever reason (probably money) manufactures don't support 1080p and when they, do they usually cheat by using a line doubler on the 540p signal.
