Palm taking orders for Cingular-branded Treo 680
It's not entirely clear whether someone at Palm jumped the gun here, but a page on Palm's own online store now tempts us with a "Palm® Treo™ 680 Cingular, GSM" in exchange for 349 of our hard-earned dollars. While it's no secret that we expect the 680 to grace Cingular with its presence any minute now, Inventec's apparent failure to implement a little something called quality control seemed to put the handset's release date in doubt -- alas, Palm's page alleges that their new low-end Treo is in stock with shipment in 1-2 business days. Sadly, we're not seeing a place to select which of the 680's tasty colors we'd like in our pocket, suggesting that this might just be the drab gray one pictured here ("Graphite," as it's known). What, are Crimson, Copper, and Arctic not good enough for you, Cingular?[Via Reaper PC/PDA]

This is a HUGE sign. I would say tomorrow will be the Cingular announcement that Friday this phone will be out along with the 750. Tomorrow you will see the actual link on Palm's site, but I think someone found it early:) After ordering and seeing it in my cart on the Palm.com site, I would say it is legit..WOOOHOOO
So are we talking $350 unsubsidized? Because that would surely suggest that the $300 with 2 year contact price was wrong, then again so was the nov 5th release date.
According to a poster at Howard Forum that page is a scam. It does have a different web address than the rest of the Palm Store but I'm not sure if it's real or a scam.
Just be cautious before sending your $$.
Your comments: I think your right, the store that palm.com links to is
web.palm.com I got all excited too...
it is NOT a scam....When you add the phone to your cart log off and go to palm.com It will show still in your cart....What I think happened it Palm was preparing for a full release tomorrow and someone found the link hiding in the store....If it were a scam it would not be in your cart when you go to palm.com using internet explorer.
350$ Unsubsidized is really interesting...
But this phone will probably be locked down to Cingular.
Oh, and the site definitely looks legit, it's got a valid certificate from Palm.com when you do the checkout
I ordered one, we'll see what happens. Wasn't really worried about a scam since I paid by CC anyway.
I did get a confirmation from Palm...and it seems legit, since from looking at the headers it was sent by GSI, who handles sales/fulfillment for Palm.
funny I went to palm.com and it wasn't in my cart, must have been something else.
"This product is temporarily out of stock."
The Treo 680 is no longer listed on Palm's site.
We recieved our display unit today. Looks nice.
I placed a order yesterday and just called Palm with my confirmation number. They said it was a error by the website programmers. They also said my order was automatically cancelled. I will have to re-order when available. They said they had no idea when it will be released but "it may be some time."
Sweeeet....My local store got one today, I will be there tomorrow to check it out...Any word on the 750???? I am more eager for that one I think.

Palm, Inc.
I just left a Cingular store trying to get BB Pearl information and they told me the new Treo would be for sale on 11/25.
Just an update--
Received an email yesterday from Palm that due to an error, the order for the Cingular 680 for $349 that I placed the other day was canceled.
So, I ordered the unlocked Crimson one this morning for $399.
Received a nice (and unexpected!) call from Palm today telling me that they were discounting my order by $50 to match the price of the one that was canceled. Great customer service!
