Sony PSP goes Champagne Gold
"Champagne Gold" wasn't exactly our first choice for a new PSP color -- it's a little nouveau riche for our blood -- but Sony will be rolling it out in Japan on February 22nd, adding it to their current line up of black, white, pink, silver & blue models. No word on if, or when, it might be released here in the States, but Sony hasn't been very good about introducing new PSP colors over here.

Like the one Kenny played, on that South Park episode!
wth is sony's problem with releasing the other colors in North America, i mean come on, they waited till a month before PS3 came out before giving us a second PS2 color, and those were limited edition.
You mean "Nouveau" not "noveau".
In my image Nouveau riche would be painting it black with gold buttons and swarovski crystals all over.
Yeah this is hardly nouveau riche; in the UK it would be more chavvy than that.
Japan gets the colors, because Japan buys PSPs.
Read that however you want.
otsego- i get i loud and clear- hey- this new colour will match snoop dogg's faux white fur collars- a perfect red carpet accessory.
Looks cheap as hell.
It's still a PSP whatever color it is. Why don't they give it up already and start on something else? or did they just have an excess of gold paint in their warehouses?
Its just plain not right that Europe and Japan get all the cool looking PSP's and PS2,s and PS3's in cool colors while America gets the ulgy (yes) I said it ugly Black only!-SCEA get off your butts and please listen to the consumers Because without us you'd be in debit with Bills!-Just look at the PS3's ridiculous!! price $599.99-Oh yeah not including tax etc-thats bullchit right there!
Ah yes, Sony - the big reason I haven't bought a PSP is that it wasn't fashion forward enough! :/ ...
Seriously now - I wish they'd quit wasting time with the colors etc, and do what they should have done originally - get rid of the UMD and fill that space with decent storage (like the Sandisk 16gb NANDflash or something). A *&*@#! memory stick for playing videos? Dumb, and frankly the only reason I don't own a PSP. I suppose I could slingbox everything if free WiFi were more ubiquitous, but until that happens I need storage onboard, or hell at least the ability to use external flash or USB storage to supplement the lackluster onboard storage. Betamax, Minidisc, UMD, Memorysticks....WhenTF is Sony going to stop trying to push their own locked crap when viable (and nearly identical) standardized alternatives exist? They think that it will increase Memory Stick sales by not giving other storage options on their products, but in reality it just makes many not buy their stuff.
The PSP, given proper hi-cap storage on release, could have been a smashing success. Instead, it's a middling contender - full of promise but crippled.
They'd be in debit?
What? Do you mean "Debt"? And could you elaborate?
Oh, I see. Sorry - you were responding to "Chris" above.
I wonder when Sony's going to latch on to a Japanese cell phone manufacture for some PSP/cell phone hybrid.
Don,
“Seriously now - I wish they'd quit wasting time with the colors etc, and do what they should have done originally - get rid of the UMD and fill that space with decent storage (like the Sandisk 16gb NANDflash or something).”
So, you want to get ride of the UMD drive...and thereby lose the ability to play any PSP game? A PSP without the UMD drive just plain wouldn't be a PSP, period.
Betamax, Minidisc, UMD, Memorysticks....WhenTF is Sony going to stop trying to push their own locked crap when viable (and nearly identical) standardized alternatives exist? “
I'll agree with you on the first three, but how is the memorystick a “locked” format? Sandisk (and possibly) others make them, and users can put whatever they want on a memory stick, so I don't see how the format is locked? Are there less devices with memorystick support than SD or Compact Flash? Yes. Would I rather have a SD port on the PSP than MS Pro Duo? Yes. But is memory stick “locked crap”? Not in my opinion.
And as far as Sony in general, while they have pushed many proprietary, crap formats like Betamax, Minidisk, and UMD (as far as movie UMDs), the company was instrumental behind the 3.5 inch floppy, the CD, and the DVD standards, and Blu-Ray, which seems closer to being the standard than HD-DVD (as far as having much more companies and movie studious behind it).
So I guess the moral of the story is that when Sony a proprietary format by themselves, it's doomed to failure, but when Sony helps create a standard with widespread support, it works out very well.
ah damn it. and right after I showed my mom that cool website and printed out all those information sheets. oh well, it's not like I can see the color when I'm playing it in the basement anyway...
No wonder Ninty is kicking their @$$ if the best they can do is a hipster skank color change. I remember a time when I loved sony.... They bought my hatred one bad move at a time.
These companies need to realize that I want to buy pink electronic gadgets!!! Right now I want a pink digital camera. Polaroid has various models of pink digital cameras for breast cancer awareness out right now, but they are sold out of every store already. Sold out! If more gadgets came in pink colors (preferably magenta) then the women consumers would be more interested, I know I would. I have a black PSP... and I think this new gold looking one is ugly!!!
Sara -- There IS a pink PSP.
have they released another product that uses the UNIVERSIAL media disk yet?
"standardized alternatives" SD, XD, MMC, Compact Flash? Which "standard" were you refering to?? -----> http://ces.engadget.com/2005/01/08/sandisk-ces-way-way-way-too-many-memory-cards/
Beta? As a consumer format, yes it failed. Why? The American market demanded the quantity that VHS supplied. Apparently the horrific loss of quality wasn't an issue to them. The format evolved into several professional versions that are still in use today...and by the way a majority of your HD programming is recorded using them. (now say Thank You...)
Minidisc? Was popular everywhere in the world except the US. It was considered a replacement for inferior audio cassettes. Again quality over quantity. It really lost out when mp3 players with longer record times (and lower sound quality) started to appear.
UMD? Still to early to tell. But a portable game unit (or any game console) needs to have a replaceable media of some sort? And what else was there to use? 8cm DVDs? too big. Flash based media? (Including Memory Sticks) Too expensive. UMD was, and is, a valid option. Did any of you whine about the Nintendo DS using it's own proprietary format??? Nope didn’t think so.
Lighten up, All of you.....if you don't like the machines a company sells......DON'T buy it!!!
...and Sara, you're partially right, electronics is a male focused industry, but it is slowly changing. Women are not only the majority of decision makers when it comes to spending family income on electronics, but many are now using these items themselves. Most manufactures are gearing their products towards female clients, including Sony:
DSCT10P --- the pink camera you were looking for
VGNC190CPP --- a pink VAIO Laptop
NWS705FP, NWS603FP, NWS203FP, NWS205FP, NWE002/003/005FP all pink MP3 players that Sony markets.
Meh, japanese fashion.
Does anyone want to buy my PSP? I want an iPhone. :)
How many "Sony Fanboy Suckers" are going to fall for this crap? ...and will any of them admit to buying the White one, 2 months ago?
Enough of all these fancy new colors.. I think it'd be better if they just revamped their current PSP by making it smaller and better all round spec-wise.
Obviously, that would mean everyone ditching their current PSP, but come on.. it's to be expected, right? I need to see something new already like Nintendo did with the DS Lite.
PimpStation Portable?
Most of you people are wrong about a lot of things. The PSP is the best portable device ever made and why because of the hackers and homebrew devs. All the hard work the homebrew devs have put into it has made it a must have, from streaming internet radio to streaming rss feeds (SONY) to high quality video to emulators like..

If I was to import this, would I be able to change the language to English?
This has to be the ugliest PSP color I have every seen. I'd rather they would better protect the LCDs so they do not have to be replaced so often!
